I Hate This Place – coming later in 2025

Prepare for a vibrant, yet terrifying, trip to the ranch as I Hate This Place is announced.

Broken Mirror Games, a new horror label under Bloober Team (the minds behind The Medium, Layers of Fear, and Observer), in partnership with Skybound Entertainment, has unveiled I Hate This Place, an open-world survival horror game coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC in Q4 2025.

Inspired by Skybound’s Eisner-nominated comic book series of the same name (created by writer Kyle Starks and artist Artyom Topilin), I Hate This Place plunges players into a supernatural world where reality itself is fracturing.

This isn’t your typical muted horror palette; the game boasts a striking visual style, drenched in bold, vivid colours and inspired by ’80s retro comic books. Each location is designed to tell its own disturbing story, blurring the line between reality and nightmare.

Survival, Strategy, and the Dreaded Horned Man

You’ll play as Elena, who awakens a malevolent force and finds herself outmatched and hunted in a hostile world. Survival depends on quick thinking and resourcefulness. You’ll need to manipulate your surroundings, engage in tense gunfights and melee combat (where ingenuity trumps brute force), and craft essential tools to survive long enough to reach safehouses before nightfall.

And speaking of nightfall, the game features a day & night cycle that directly impacts gameplay dynamics. But whatever you do, avoid the Horned Man. He sounds… unpleasant.

From Comic Book Pages to Open-World Terror

The connection to the comic book source material is strong. Kyle Starks, writer of the I Hate This Place comic series, expressed his excitement: “I love my book I HATE THIS PLACE – a labor of horror love with series co-creator and artist Artyom Topiln – so needless to say I’m thrilled to see someone bring it to life in video game form! I can’t wait to get my hands on this game and be trapped on the terrible ranch the book inhabits!

Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team, added: “We are always looking to push the boundaries of horror in all its forms, and with this new title under Broken Mirror Games, I Hate This Place is a testament to that vision. With its blend of survival mechanics, gripping storytelling, and a distinct visual identity, we believe I Hate This Place will immerse players in a truly unforgettable nightmare.”

Prepare for the Ranch From Hell in Q4 2025

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
