If you are well-versed in the turn-based RPG scene on Xbox, the name KEMCO probably rings multiple bells, given that they make pretty much every turn-based RPG title out there. In 2022, they don’t seem to be letting go of that mantle, with Sword of Elipsia releasing to the masses.
Available right now on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, Sword of Elipsia tells the fantasy tale of Terra – a world in which magic has gone terribly wrong, and people are suddenly being turned into magical swords known as Magiswords. With a party centering around the young Aldo, and one of the aforementioned Magiswords known as Alice, you must travel Terra in an attempt to get to the bottom of this magical mystery.
This will involve you talking to those from each of the three factions that make up Terra, and from this invite more characters to your party. In a gameplay sense, this will see you gaining new abilities to use against a variety of enemies in turn-based combat, alongside the wide range of Magisword weapons to dish out damage with.
A typical session with Sword of Elipsia will see you get stuck into battles, and then gradually tweak and improve your attacks with new skills and effects that are applied to your Magisword – all until you build the greatest Magisword Terra has ever witnessed!
It’s the traditional turn-based combat, with the traditional upgrading of weapons, all beautifully presented through traditional pixel art graphics. If you are a big KEMCO fan, you really can’t go wrong picking up a copy of Sword of Elipsia. However if you are new to the genre, Sword of Elipsia also caters with a plethora of weapons, stat boosts and the like to get accustomed to – you might want to wait until our full review goes live before picking up a purchase.
