It’s time to throw it back, old-school. No, not to the GameCube, not to the PlayStation 1, but all the way back to the Neo Geo with the launch of GladMort.
I’m well-aware that stating that a console release in the 1990s as ‘old-school’ may offend many of our readers, but stay with me here. Funded in just 24 hours via a CrowdFunding campaign, GladMort is a 2D side-scrolling action-platformer that is designed with the Neo Geo in mind.
It is available on modern consoles, mind, so you don’t need to dust off the old arcade cabinet!
Platforming Power
Now available on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch – just a week after its PC debut – GladMort is both the name of the latest title from PixelHeart and Chipsonsteroids, and also that of our titular knight hero.
As GladMort, you must venture through the medieval world, slaughtering all manner of terrifying, supernatural foes that stand in your way.
Through five unique levels, you will fight off the undead as well as do battle with a number of tricky bosses, each intent on sending you straight back to the main menu, forcing you to chuck a couple more quarters in to restart (or press A, as it is 2025).
GladMort is thankfully not as unforgiving as many arcade titles of yesteryear – you can get hit twice before succumbing to death, and there’s a few checkpoints strewn around each level to reach.

GladMort Description
In a faraway kingdom in a land of legend, a mysterious plague of unknown origin has rapidly infected the population. Dubbed the “Red Plague”, the evil nature of the phenomenon is unmistakable: the dead begin to rise from their graves, and demonic incarnations begin to appear. Within months, the dead form an evil army commanded by the Lords of Darkness. Villages and towns begin to be ravaged, the demonic legions growing with each victory.
Make your way through the 5 levels and many powerful Bosses, kicking the butt of enemies specific to their environment. Use your double jump to dodge enemies and traps, or to reach certain platforms
As in old arcade games, you can only be hit twice before losing a life. The first time, you lose your armor, but you can continue to fight the forces of evil in UNDIES! Get hit again, however, and you’ll lose your life miserably. Losing a life takes you back to the beginning of the level, or to the … checkpoint if you’ve reached it. Beware of “Game Over”…
The fate of humanity is now in the hands of our anti-hero…
