If you like racing and love adventures then Defunct will be right up your street, as it combines the best of both worlds!
Available right now on both Xbox One and PS4, Defunct is an adventure racer from the indie development team at Freshly Squeezed. Brought to life by SOEDESCO, Defunct will see you playing as a small robot who utilises a single wheel and a Gravitize engine for movement. The problem? He’s a bit broken.
After falling out of the back of a cargo plane, it is up to you to help the little guy traverse his way through multiple levels, taking in high speed gameplay and using gravity in order to get around. If you don’t help him, then the chances are his ship will be gone and he’ll be left to rot on the post-human Earth.
Priced at just £12.49, Defunct is certainly a decent way of getting an adventure racing thrill – at least on the face of it – and with unlockable tricks, a time trial mode and more to keep you busy away from the story, then it may just be worth a little shot.
- Experience high speed gameplay using gravity as your ally
- Dash through lots of different climates, biomes and challenges
- Unlock many skins to customize your character
- Perform special unlockable tricks
- Compete to be the fastest in the world with time trial mode, which offers 5 extra levels
Our full review will be with you very shortly, but for now, if you’re an Xbox One player then you should be heading to the Microsoft Store. PS4 players should be finding Defunct available from their own digital store. Xbox Play Anywhere is a thing Defunct is embracing too.

Defunct is coming soon to Windows 10 PC and will support Xbox Play Anywhere. Purchasing on Xbox One today also gives you the ability to play on Windows 10 PC when it releases, at no additional cost. Defunct is an indie adventure game with a focus on flow, speed and an engaging world. You are a broken robot that accidentally falls out of a giant cargo ship onto a post-human Earth, now inhabited by robots. You have to get back to your ship before it’s too late! You are equipped with a Gravitize engine. It is used to create a separate gravity around yourself; this is the main source of your speed. Use this in downhills to accelerate. But be careful, using it uphill will slow you down. In addition to this the world is full of different speed boosts such as Enerjuice, which you can pick up and use to go faster.
