Go Go Mister Chickums keyart as the game launches on console and PC
Go Go Mister Chickums – out on consoles and PC today

Go! Go! Mister Chickums is simple – your eggs have been stolen, and someone’s going to have to answer for it. What follows is a fast, frantic, and unapologetically retro platforming adventure that feels like it’s jumped straight out of an arcade cabinet.

Now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC, this colourful throwback from Headup Games and com8com1 dips into classic design, tight gameplay and just the right amount of chaos.

At A Glance

  • Game: Go! Go! Mister Chickums
  • Developer: com8com1
  • Publisher: Headup Games
  • Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC
  • Game Type: Arcade Platformer / Single-Screen

A Simple Goal, A Chaotic Journey

There’s no overthinking the premise here. A mischievous troublemaker named Grabbo has stolen Mister Chickums’ eggs, and it’s up to you to get them back.

Each level drops you into a single-screen challenge where the aim is clear – collect everything, avoid danger, and do it all before time runs out. It’s straightforward, but the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding quick reactions and smart movement.

Built On Classic Arcade Foundations

Go! Go! Mister Chickums takes heavy inspiration from 80s arcade platformers, and it shows in all the right ways.

You’re working within tight spaces, dealing with enemy patterns, jumping with precision and constantly keeping an eye on the clock. There’s a rhythm to it, one that rewards practice and punishes hesitation.

The game packs in a hefty 100 levels, each one introducing new layouts, enemy types and challenges. Some levels test your timing, others your patience, and a few will likely push both at the same time. Along the way, bonus items and hidden mechanics give you extra ways to boost your score or earn a few more lives when things start getting tricky.

Better With A Friend

While the solo experience is solid, things really open up when you bring a second player into the mix.

Local couch co-op lets a friend jump in as Fritz, Mister Chickums’ loyal companion, turning each level into a shared scramble for survival. It adds a layer of unpredictability, whether you’re working together or accidentally getting in each other’s way.

A Throwback That Knows Its Strengths?

Go! Go! Mister Chickums isn’t trying to reinvent platformers. Instead, it focuses on delivering tight, satisfying gameplay built around simple ideas executed well.

If you’ve got a soft spot for classic arcade challenges, or just want something fast-paced and easy to pick up, this is one egg hunt that’s worth jumping into. Sold? The Xbox Store (£8.39) and Steam will provide the download you need, whilst other digital storefronts should also do similar.

Stay tuned for our review.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
