Dovetail Games has just launched its first-ever Dutch route, Spoorlijn Zwolle – Groningen, bringing a fresh landscape, new trains, and unique challenges to the acclaimed train simulation series.
A New Country, New Challenges
Train Sim World 5: Spoorlijn Zwolle – Groningen transports players to the Netherlands, offering a 107km route between the cities of Zwolle and Groningen, known as the “capital of the north.”
This line, built in stages between the 1860s and 1870s and modernised over time, features flat countryside, smaller towns, and a variety of infrastructure, including sections rebuilt as recently as November 2023.
This isn’t just a visual change; it’s a whole new gameplay experience. Players will need to learn:
- New Signalling System: The route features the Dutch signalling system, distinct from those found in other Train Sim World routes.
- New Safety System (ATB): Mastering the ATB (Automatische Trein Beïnvloeding) safety system is crucial for safe and efficient operation.
- New Trains: Operate two iconic Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) trains:ICMm “Koploper”: This ’70s icon (soon to be retired) features a unique, elevated, cockpit-style cab with retro dials and a panoramic view.
- SNG Sprinter: A sleek, modern train used for local services.
More Than Just Trains: Immersive Details
Dovetail Games hasn’t just focused on the trains and systems; they’ve also packed the route with immersive details:
- Cyclists: A first for the Train Sim World franchise, cyclists will be present along the route, adding to the realism.
- Wildlife: Keep an eye out for storks nesting on the unique overhead wires!
- Authentic Scenery: The flat Dutch countryside and smaller towns are meticulously recreated.
