Afil Games have pretty much sewn up the indie and micro development scene in recent years, one-upping the likes of Ratalaika Games and Eastasiasoft in the process. Their latest? Well, that’s a mirror-twisting puzzler in which players need to utilise the power of the Mage Golem in order to awaken others. What could go wrong in Golem Lights?

A Familiar Setup With A Bright Twist
Priced at ÂŁ4.19 and running three unique flavours from the Xbox Store – Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S Optimised and Windows PC – Golem Lights is nothing wildly new, taking the age-old ideas of mirror puzzlers and providing a host of stages for us to work through.
And if you’re not playing on Xbox? There’s a PlayStation version waiting too.
Light The Way
In Golem Lights you take charge of the mighty Mage Golem. It’s this guy who holds all that mystical energy, able to illuminate paths, awaken other golems and ultimately power up the route to the mysterious Crystal Portal.
Some 60 levels play out with that same idea in mind – twist mirrors, bounce beams of light around each area and slowly reveal the environment as you go. Along the way, you’ll activate additional golems, experiment with how light interacts with the world, and piece together solutions that open up new paths forward.
A Relaxed Puzzle Experience
Much like in any and all Afil Games titles, Golem Lights should rarely test the mind too much. In fact, if you’re here reading this, we’d suspect you’ve already picked up a ton of easy Gamerscore from other titles in the back catalogue; games like Zoo Orbs and Magic Sheep for instance.
Similar should go for Golem Lights too. Spread across three distinct biomes, there are no time limits, no pressure, and no need to rush. Bring a bit of logic, a touch of creativity and some light planning, and you should be able to glide through without too much trouble.
Worth A Glow?
As always, we’ll let you know how things play out in full review soon. But if you’re after a calm, easy-going puzzler that leans more into experimentation than frustration, this could well fit the bill.
Interested? Golem Lights is live right now on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Xbox players have three versions to choose from – Series X|S Optimised, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
