Grab some comic-book brawling fun as the Deadbeat Heroes rock up on Xbox One and PC

-

With the Square Enix Collective firmly behind them, and a hugely frantic, movement orientated comic-book based idea in front, chances are that two industry veterans with a big idea would be able to create something pretty damn nifty. Well, that’s what the team at Deadbeat Productions hope will be the case as Deadbeat Heroes hits Xbox One and PC.

Available right now for £11.99, Deadbeat Heroes is a love-letter to those 1960’s comic books that we all know and love. Created by ex-Lionhead and Rockstar developers, it comes with a supremely bright and fun art style, some decent brawling mechanics, and enough replayability to keep you going for some time.

Kicking, punching, wall-running, jumping and pinching super powers are all par for the course and you’ll need to utilise all these things, whilst practicing growing your combos, should you wish to succeed with the motley crew of Deadbeat Heroes.

“With Deadbeat Heroes we wanted to capture the spirit of classic fighters but update it for current gamers. The result is a fast, fluid, movement based brawler where you – and a friend – can show off while creating daft amounts of chaos around you,” details Adam Langridge, Director at Deadbeat Productions. “It’s our ode to some of the biggest and brightest brawlers of the past, as well as our take on where the genre can go. Deadbeat Heroes is for anyone who, like us, already loves the excitement and camaraderie of co-op fighters as well as action gamers who want to test their mettle with something new.”

According to Phil Elliott  Director of Indie Publishing, Square Enix West – Deadbeat Heroes is the perfect example of triple-A talent being given the freedom to try new things.

“Deadbeat Heroes brilliantly showcases exactly what Square Enix Collective is all about – supporting some of the industry’s brightest talent and giving them the opportunity to be truly creative,” says Phil Elliott. “This is without doubt one of the most purely fun games I’ve played in a long time.”

Our full review is in the works and should be with you in the coming days, but should you like what Deadbeat Heroes promises, or were lucky enough to go hands-on with the game at the recent EGX show, then the Microsoft Store awaits your cash. Get over there and enjoy the fun it brings.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
