After first appearing on the radar with a planned late-2025 launch, LOVE ETERNAL has now finally arrived on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4, bringing its unsettling mix of horror storytelling and precision platforming to players across multiple platforms.
We first covered LOVE ETERNAL back in June 2025 when the atmospheric platformer was targeting a release before the end of that year. That window came and went quietly, but the wait is now over – and the result is a game that looks determined to blend mechanical challenge with psychological unease.

A Story Of Loss, Captivity, And Escape
LOVE ETERNAL follows Maya, a young girl stolen from her home by a lonely god and imprisoned within a vast, ancient castle of metal bars and endless corridors. The setting immediately establishes a sense of vulnerability and isolation, with the story unfolding through environmental clues and seamlessly integrated cutscenes.
Rather than relying on jump scares, the horror here leans into psychological discomfort. As Maya pushes deeper into the castle, the truth behind her imprisonment begins to surface, revealing a narrative that is as emotional as it is disturbing.
It’s a slow-burn approach to storytelling that complements the game’s deliberate pacing and puzzle-focused design.
Mastering Gravity To Survive
At the heart of LOVE ETERNAL is a single, elegant mechanic: Maya can reverse gravity once during a jump, allowing her to fall upward instead of downward. That simple ability quickly becomes the foundation for increasingly complex platforming challenges.
The castle is packed with hazards – spikes, lasers, switches, and traps – all arranged across more than 100 handcrafted screens. Success depends on timing, planning, and careful movement, as each section builds on the last to create a steady difficulty curve.
What starts as a straightforward traversal system gradually evolves into a demanding precision platformer.
A Distinctive Visual And Audio Identity
LOVE ETERNAL’s hand-drawn pixel art gives the game a striking visual personality. Characters move with fluid animation, while the castle itself feels alive in an eerie, oppressive way.
The soundtrack reinforces that mood, blending beauty and discomfort to create an atmosphere that never quite lets players relax. Together, the art and audio direction help maintain tension even in quieter moments.
It’s a world that feels both fragile and threatening; a fitting backdrop for Maya’s journey.
“LOVE ETERNAL is, to my knowledge, the first game to combine precision platforming with psychological horror; but even beyond this obvious novelty, the game unfolds in a way I think no player will be able to fully anticipate,” said Toby Alden, designer at brlka. “I’m very excited to finally reveal the moments and characters and world we’ve created, and I think anyone who rolls credits on this game will be able to say they had at least one entirely new experience.”
A Delayed Arrival Worth The Wait?
Now available across PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S (Xbox Store, £8.50), PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4, LOVE ETERNAL brings together narrative horror and demanding platforming in a way that feels distinctive within both genres.
While its originally planned late-2025 release didn’t materialise, the arrival in 2026 gives players the chance to experience a carefully crafted platformer that balances mechanical precision with emotional storytelling. We’ll let you know how it goes – our full review is very much on the way.
Just remember, escaping the castle may require mastering gravity, but understanding why Maya is there may prove the real challenge.
