There are plenty of platformers that give their hero a trusty weapon, a double jump or perhaps a handy grappling hook. Gravity Paws though? Well, that hands its canine star the ability to flip gravity instead.
Launching today on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, this pixel art platformer looks to mix familiar retro foundations with some suitably modern movement.
Priced at ÂŁ4.19 on each version, Gravity Paws puts players behind the paws of Duke, a dog who finds himself lost in a mysterious forest filled with strange anomalies. Getting home won’t be as simple as following the path back, either. Duke will need to master his unusual new abilities if he wants to make it out.

Meet Duke, The Gravity-Defying Dog
Duke’s adventure begins with him stranded somewhere he definitely doesn’t want to be. Fortunately, his trip into the strange forest comes with a rather useful side effect – the ability to invert gravity.
That immediately gives Gravity Paws a little more to work with than the average pixel platformer. Running and jumping remain at the heart of the experience, but Duke can also dash, flip himself around the environment and throw bones at anything that gets in his way.
The forest is packed with obstacles and enemies, meaning these abilities aren’t simply there for show. Players will need to work out when to change direction, when to dash and how best to use Duke’s bones to progress.
A Little More Than Your Average Platformer
The basic ingredients should be familiar to anyone who has spent time with retro-inspired platformers, but Gravity Paws looks to give them a modern spin through its movement system.
Duke can use his bones to break cracked walls and deal with threats, while gravity inversion opens up new ways of navigating the environment. A section that initially looks impossible from the ground might suddenly make sense when the entire world is turned on its head.
A New Pixel Adventure From The Creators Of Paper Pixel
Gravity Paws also arrives with a little company. JM Neto Game Dev previously released Paper Pixel, another retro-styled title that hit Xbox earlier this year. We covered that launch back in May, when Paper Pixel brought its own brand of old-school action to Xbox.
There’s even a Gravity Paws + Paper Pixel Bundle available for ÂŁ19.99, bringing together all three versions of both games for anyone looking to get the pair in one purchase. And alongside that is the JM Neto Game Dev Mega Bundle – 29 IN 1 for ÂŁ83.49. This Mega Bundle includes all three versions of:
- Daniel in Danger
- Escape from the Dungeon
- Fruit Adventure
- Fruit Adventure Returns
- Gravity Paws
- Ninja Escape Danger
- Paper Pixel
- Pixapple Adventure
- The Super Penguboy
- Warp Bot
For players who like their platforming adventures cheap, compact and packed with pixel art, Gravity Paws could be worth keeping an eye on. Just don’t expect Duke to take the conventional route home – when you can turn gravity upside down, there’s little reason to stick to the path.
Gravity Paws is available on three versions on the Xbox Store – Xbox Series X|S Optimised, Xbox One, or for Windows PC.
