A Small Beetle, A Big Adventure

In Beetle Shock, players take control of a sturdy little beetle capable of smashing through cracked logs using a powerful ground pound ability.

The goal across each stage is simple enough: find the yellow fruit, unlock the exit and make your way to the insect house hidden within the forest. Of course, things get a little more complicated when obstacles, hazards and hidden collectibles begin to stand in your way.

Spread across 30 levels, the adventure takes players through both daytime and nighttime environments, gradually introducing new platforming challenges without overwhelming younger or less experienced players.

Mushrooms, Cannon Plants And Plenty Of Fireflies

Bouncy mushrooms help launch your beetle across gaps, while cannon plants can fire you through parts of the environment that would otherwise be impossible to reach. Along the way, completionists will find plenty of hidden fireflies tucked away in corners of each level, encouraging a little extra exploration beyond simply racing to the finish.

And of course, most players will be familiar with Afil Games by now. The publisher has built a reputation for releasing a steady stream of affordable puzzle, platforming and arcade-style experiences, often focusing on straightforward mechanics and easy-to-understand gameplay loops, like some of the most recent releases in the form of To Bee Jazz, Sands and Relics and several others.

Looking For A Lighthearted Platformer?

Whether you’re chasing every collectible or simply looking for a family-friendly platformer to fill an afternoon, this tiny adventure may be worth a closer look.

Beetle Shock is available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S Optimised, Windows PC (in three versions so hit those links), PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, priced at ÂŁ4.19.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
