After what seems like a tense visit from his boss, we see Jason on the verge of entering a house – for a split second, it almost morphs into gameplay before cutting to him behind the wheel. Everyone seems to know and like Jason, yet suddenly he’s roughing up shop owners and snatching cash from the till. Is our man running a protection racket?
The intrigue is real!
LUCIA
Next, Jason’s picking Lucia up from prison, and as The Pointer Sisters’ “Hot Together” blasts through the speakers, those incredible 80s Vice City vibes hit you instantly.
We’re treated to glimpses of Lucia and Jason’s passionate connection – steamy motel scenes, romantic drinks by a breathtaking sunset, and them getting their first place together. But is Lucia really just doing community service picking up litter? Not a chance!
A whirlwind montage shows her masterminding a bank robbery, showcasing professional kickboxing skills, brawling mid-air on an aeroplane, and lighting up Vice City with a host of dance moves.
She’s destined to be a fan favourite, and their unfolding love story? It’s promising to be nothing short of epic.
VICE CITY
We got some tantalising new views of Vice City itself. Imagine stunning daytime vistas of towering skyscrapers, sleek jets soaring overhead, and sprawling freeways.
Then, as night falls, Vice City transforms into a vibrant playground of pulsating parties, dazzling neon lights, and streets teeming with people ready to revel… right before the inevitable crime and glorious destruction unfold.
The sheer scale of this world is still under wraps, and we’ve only had fleeting glimpses of the surrounding Keys and Everglades.
Beyond the trailer, Rockstar has also unleashed a torrent of screenshots, revealing just how diverse and captivating the city will be, packed with a massive cast of characters and a plethora of unique locations.
VEHICLES
Get ready for a joyride!
The trailer showcased an incredible array of vehicles: aeroplanes, motorcycles, Jet Skis, airboats, cars, trucks, and helicopters.
If past GTA experiences are anything to go by, you’ll be “borrowing” and amassing this entire collection of thrilling toys to wreak havoc with. We witnessed high-octane car chases, aerial dogfights, and pursuits across water and air, all punctuated by glorious explosions – pure, unadulterated fun for everyone (except maybe the NPCs).
QUESTIONS – SO MANY QUESTIONS!
Even though this gameplay trailer didn’t explicitly show “gameplay” in the traditional sense – or perhaps it was subtly woven in – it definitely shed more light on the narrative brewing between Lucia and Jason and their likely capers.
The accompanying screenshots and website updates have peeled back even more layers, hinting at a vast range of activities in GTA6 like fishing, hunting, canoeing, and more.
We’re also getting a clearer picture of the diverse locales: the urban sprawl of Vice City, the heights of Mount Kalaga, a sprawling national park, the country-industrial vibes of Ambrosia, the crime-ridden resort area of Port Gellhorn, the croc-infested Grassriver and Swamps, and of course, the Leonida Keys where we first met Jason.
This leaves me pondering: Will we only be playing as these two characters? Just how colossal is this map going to be? And the big one – how much will it set us back? Plus, how will GTA Online integrate into this vibrant new world?
Rockstar, those absolute geniuses. I’ve adored every single one of their games (yes, even the Table Tennis one!). They march to the beat of their own drum, and this surprise trailer drop is quintessential Rockstar.
After the somewhat deflating news of the game’s delay to May 26th, 2026, this trailer is the perfect, exhilarating shot in the arm to soothe the sting. Though, a tiny part of me can’t help but think they might just have a few more earth-shattering surprises for us before that release date.
