Guacamelee! 2 brings the best in wacky Mexican luchador platforming combat to Xbox One

If you were lucky enough to have played the excellent Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition when it released on Xbox One a few years back, then you will be glad to hear that the sequel is more of the same crazy luchador action that you most probably adored from the original. Yep, that’s right, Guacamelle! 2 on Xbox One is here!

Available right now on Xbox One, Guacamelee! 2 continues the story of famed luchadore Juan Aguacate, or should I say ex-luchador, as now Juan is more of a family man, preferring to stray away from the exhilarating albeit dangerous job of his past. That is until a new threat arises, threatening to tear apart the entire Mexiverse, and Juan must don his wrestling garms once again, teaming up with friends new and old to put an end to this new evil.

But how will he do so? Well, Juan’s success mainly depends on your reactions, platforming and combat ability, as it is these three aspects that form the core of Guacamelee! 2’s gameplay. Playing out across a vast Mexican-inspired world, you must navigate through a number of rooms, utilising Juan’s vast repertoire of moves to dispose of the different enemies that litter the area. Unlocking each move will be integral to opening up new areas of the world and thus progressing through the story, hence the strong Metroidvania flavour of the game.

But that isn’t all! When you aren’t beating the fajitas out of your foes, you will need to have nimble fingers capable of traversing some pretty tricky platforming sequences. As with the original Guacamelee! title, there are two planes of being you can be in, and in each ‘universe’ certain platforms appear, therefore you must quickly switch between each universe in order to hit certain platforms and perform certain moves. The unique aspect of the dual-universe is integral to success in the platforming, as well as the combat, of Guacamelee! 2. Oh, and sometimes you may have to simply turn into a chicken in the areas where Juan just won’t fit!

With the added chance to experience all of this action with up to three friends in easy to access local co-op, the draw of Guacamelee! 2 just increases. And did we mention the colourful, cartoony visuals are enhanced on Xbox One X?

Guacamelee! 2 is now available on Xbox One for £16.74, but act quickly with a purchase and you could pick up a tidy discount. The game is also available on PS4, Switch and PC.

Game Description:

Brawling has never been more beautiful! The long-awaited sequel to the smash hit action-platformer is here: Guacamelee! 2 brings luchador Juan Aguacate out of retirement for a stunning new Metroidvania-style adventure, where he must face his greatest challenge yet – one that threatens to tear apart the very fabric of the Mexiverse! Explore a huge, hand-crafted world inspired by Mexican culture and folklore, filled with sassy new villains and weirdos (and a few old friends!). Learn a deep repertoire of bone-crunching wrestling moves to fend off the skeletal hordes and overcome skillful platforming challenges… and who said anything about a Chicken Illuminati? Certainly not us!

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
