The Western frontier has been reimagined in a way few games have dared attempt. Guns of Eschaton has been officially announced, bringing together first-person gunplay, Souls-like challenge and occult horror in a bleak vision of nineteenth-century America.
Coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, the debut title from Eschatology Entertainment also carries special significance. It represents the final original universe conceived by the late Viktor Antonov, the celebrated art director whose work helped define classics including Half-Life 2 and Dishonored.

A Western Where Every Shot Matters
Rather than encouraging players to charge headlong into battle, Guns of Eschaton asks you to think before every trigger pull. Ammunition is precious, enemies are unforgiving and survival depends on preparation as much as quick reactions.
Combat revolves around studying enemies through an in-game Codex, uncovering their weaknesses before exploiting them with specialised ammunition, carefully timed parries, evasive dashes and occult abilities. It’s a system designed around deliberate encounters where every decision can mean the difference between victory and another trip back from defeat.
If the developers are true to their vision, this won’t simply be a shooter with difficult enemies – it’ll be a genuine blend of first-person gunplay and Souls-inspired design.
Build Your Own Legendary Gunslinger
As players travel across a dying America from the Wild West towards the East Coast, they’ll be able to shape their own style of play through an extensive progression system.
Firearms, armour, talismans, consumables, mystical powers and multiple ammunition types can all be mixed together, encouraging experimentation with different builds and combat strategies. Whether you prefer precision marksmanship, supernatural abilities or a balanced hybrid approach, there should be plenty of room to personalise your gunslinger.
Better still, the journey won’t have to be tackled alone. Full solo and co-op progression means every challenge can be faced either independently or alongside friends.
Viktor Antonov’s Final Original World
Perhaps the most striking aspect of Guns of Eschaton is the talent behind its setting.
The game’s apocalyptic vision of the American frontier is the final original universe created by Viktor Antonov, whose unmistakable artistic style helped shape some of gaming’s most memorable locations, including City 17 in Half-Life 2 and the plague-ridden streets of Dishonored.
Studio Head Fuad Kuliev paid tribute to Antonov’s influence, saying:
“We are incredibly honoured to be revealing Guns of Eschaton, the final project shaped by the extraordinary vision of Viktor Antonov. From the earliest stages of development, I had the privilege of shaping this world together with Viktor: where ideas, themes, and concepts evolved through his talent into the world players will see today. Viktor’s imagination and creative legacy have been a constant source of inspiration throughout development, and this game is the result of an incredible collaborative effort from our entire team to bring that vision to life. We are proud to share it with players around the world in partnership with our publisher, 4Divinity.“
For fans of atmospheric worlds, that pedigree alone makes this one worth keeping an eye on.
One To Watch
Souls-like games continue to evolve in fascinating directions, and Guns of Eschaton looks set to carve out its own niche by replacing swords with six-shooters and medieval kingdoms with an occult American frontier.
There’s no release date just yet, but with its distinctive setting, strategic gunplay and the creative legacy of Viktor Antonov behind it, this is already shaping up to be one of the more intriguing action games on the horizon. We’ll be following Guns of Eschaton closely as more details emerge. For now, take in the trailer.
