Halls of Torment
Halls of Torment – now on Game Pass

One of the biggest, most beloved, and most addictive indie hits on PC has finally brought its labyrinthine hellscape to Xbox consoles, and Halls of Torment has launched as a Day One drop on Game Pass.

Halls of Torment, the horde survival game with a stunning pre-rendered 90s look, from developer and publisher Chasing Carrots, which boasts over 28,000 “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam, is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

This is a Game Pass drop you won’t want to miss, but for those looking to purchase, the Standard Edition is available for £7.99. There’s full Xbox Play Anywhere support too.

A 90s Art Style Meets Modern Horde Survival

Halls of Torment is a unique and brilliant blend of genres. It takes the addictive run structure of a survivor-like (think Vampire Survivors) and wraps it in a gorgeous, pre-rendered retro aesthetic ripped straight from the 90s RPGs we grew up with (you know, just like Diablo).

You’ll choose from a roster of hero characters and descend into the deadly Halls of Torment, fighting unholy horrors from beyond. You must survive wave after wave of enemies until you’re strong enough to face one of the tormented Lords, all while growing your build and plunging deeper into the abyss.

A Massive 1.0 Launch: New Bard, New Boglands

This isn’t just a simple console port; this is the full 1.0 launch of the game, and it arrives as a massive package of new content for all players.

Included for all players at launch is the enormous and highly-anticipated Bardcore free update. This update introduces the long-awaited new Bard character, six new abilities, six new endgame artifacts, three new metal music tracks, and the community-requested ability to manually level up.

And then launching alongside the game is the first-ever paid expansion, The Boglands DLC, which can be purchased separately for £3.19. This festering new frontier opens up a new stage – a murky swamp where survival, not time, is your main enemy.

The DLC also includes two new heroes (the Crone and the Alchemist), 50+ new quests, new abilities, and the new “Decay” mechanic.

Your Ticket to the Abyss: Editions Explained

You have a few ways to jump into the torment today:

  • Standard Edition (£7.99): Includes the full base game and the free Bardcore update.
  • Xbox Game Pass: The Standard Edition is available to play Day One on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
  • The Boglands DLC (£3.19): The new expansion, available to add to the Standard Edition.
  • Halls of Torment – The Bog Bundle (£9.99): This is the best value for purchasers, as it combines the base game and The Boglands DLC in one complete package.

Your Descent into Madness

Here’s what to expect from this massive Game Pass drop:

  • A Horde Survival Game: Playable in addictive 30-minute runs.
  • “Overwhelmingly Positive” Acclaim: A massive indie hit with over 28,000 positive Steam reviews.
  • Old-School Retro Art Style: Inspired by the pre-rendered 90s classics.
  • Deep Build Variety: An enormous range of characters, abilities, and items.
  • Packed with Content: The full 1.0 launch includes the massive free “Bardcore” update.
  • A New Frontier of Fear: The Boglands DLC adds a whole new realm, two new heroes, and more.

The Halls are open, and a new torment is waiting. If you’re a Game Pass member, there is absolutely no reason to miss this one. If you’re a fan of addictive roguelikes and 90s nostalgia, Halls of Torment is ready to become your next just one more run obsession on the Xbox Store right now.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
