The Spitlings are coming and today HandyGames confirm that they’ll be bringing some utterly mad multiplayer mayhem to Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC later this year

After teaming up with Massive Miniteam, HandyGames have announced that the perfect game for blaming your friends is coming later this year, as Spitlings delivers some crazy action arcade chaos.

Spitlings on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC will see up to 4 players taking on the hardcore classics, just via a more modern day take. This will see you put in charge of a Spitling, an adorable rectangular creature which will happily jump around, spitting it’s teeth. And if that makes absolutely no sense to you, then you’re not alone and should spend a bit of time watching the official teaser trailer below.

Spitlings will arrive on console and PC bringing with it a Story Mode as well as an Arcade Mode that comes complete with over 100 levels; each is a unique challenge and playable solo or with up to four players. It’s all about winning together, and losing together in Spitlings because if one player fails on a level, everyone has to start all over. Annoying? Yes. Addictive? Certainly!

“We’re extremely excited about this opportunity. For our first game, we couldn’t have wished for a better publisher than HandyGames. They are nothing but supportive and have the experience to make sure that SPITLINGS reaches the audience it deserves. We got a true co-op partner in them!” says Milan Pingel, Founder & Producer at Massive Miniteam.

You’ll also be able to create your own stages in Spitlings, thanks to a unique four-player co-op editor. The intuitive, simple tools can be used without prior experience to make a working level within minutes, and level editing promises to be almost as much fun as playing the game itself.

Features of Spitlings include:

  • Classic hardcore gameplay meets modern design sensibility
  • Action packed, highly engaging, scream-at-your-friends multiplayer fun
  • If one fails, all restart: it’s co-op with all the outrage of versus on top
  • Play a 100+ level Story Mode with cutscene animations
  • Beat the clock to unlock 30+ themes and characters
  • Edit game options and parameters to suit your playstyle in Arcade Mode
  • Play by your lonesome or with up to three other friends in four-player co-op multiplayer
  • Tap into your creativity with the local level editor which can also be used in co-op play

So, will you be going in for some crazy gaming with the Spitlings? We’ll be sure to keep you updated as to the progress of the game, but in the meantime let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
