Okay okay, so Halloween may still be a month or so away, but this year the spooky treats are hitting home earlier than usual, as Pumpkin Jack prepares to hit the next New-Gen, bringing some spooky 3D platforming to Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

Available from October 27th 2021 will be Pumpkin Jack New-Gen Edition for Xbox Series X|S and PS5, as Halloween comes a little early and the popular mascot platformer gets a next-gen release. Coming out of the Thunderful and Headup stables will be the fiery glow of Pumpkin Jack’s carved grin, looking spookier than ever thanks to 60fps and a touch of next-gen ray-tracing, adding to the already vibrant and atmospheric world crafted by solo developer Nicolas Meyssonnier in his love-letter to the classic era of 3D platforming.

But things get better and to allowing players to make this Halloween treat just that little bit sweeter is the fact that Pumpkin Jack will be cross-buy on PlayStation and Xbox platforms. This means that buying the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version will also grant you access to the equivalent last-gen one, and vice versa. If you already own Pumpkin Jack on PS4 or Xbox One, you’ll automatically get access to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S New-Gen Edition respectively at no extra cost

So what is Pumpkin Jack? Well, it only released on Xbox One and PS4 back in October of 2020, but it gave the opportunity for players to head off on a quest to help evil triumph over good, as you would travel through a series of eerie themed settings, master combos and dodges to defeat challenging beasts. Oh yeah, and you’d be found building an awesome arsenal of weapons and solve devilish mini-games that focus on skills and puzzles.

With the move to the next-gen things are now delivered with a perfect mix of old and new, melding a retro-inspired title that builds on the legacy of the likes of MediEvil and Jak & Daxter with the technological power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

But whether you’re a veteran Pumpkin Jack fan or looking for something new to involve yourself with, you’ll be covered with this New-Gen version. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Pumpkin Jack New-Gen Edition has a Performance Mode that targets up to 4K resolution at 60fps, but there is also a Quality Mode available that targets up to 4K resolution at 30fps, adding higher quality effects and shadows with Ray-Tracing.

“Pumpkin Jack may be a retro throwback to the golden age of 3D platformers, but it elevates it with contemporary graphics that have never looked better, thanks to the new gen’s ray-tracing enhancements,” said Pumpkin Jack developer Nicolas Meyssonnier. “This is the definitive edition of Pumpkin Jack, arriving just in time for Halloween!”

You’ll be able to get access to Pumpkin Jack New-Gen Edition come October 27th on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. Will you be picking it up?

If you haven’t yet picked up the game, you’ll find the Xbox Store holding the key to the download of the standard edition.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
