Building a Railway Empire is a tiresome business, but those who throw themselves straight in will also discover many opportunities to visit far-flung lands. With the latest DLC pack for Railway Empire on Xbox One, PS4 and Steam, that trip of a lifetime exists once more, taking us to Northern Europe.
Railway Empire Northern Europe DLC is available right now on Xbox One, PS4 and Steam, and it gives wannabe railway engineers the chance to work with the Swedish Parliament in order to construct a bran new national railroad, helping advance the economy in ways previously never possible.
Priced at £6.69, the Northern Europe content is the latest expansion for Railway Empire and follows on from what the publishing team at Kalypso Media and Gaming Minds Studios have previously delivered, this time focusing efforts on the far-reaching industrial advancements Sweden created along the lakes and sprawling rivers that were first used by freight ships to provide goods and supplies to Northern Europe.
The new DLC includes:
- New scenario: Hibernation (1853-1870)
- Map expansion: ‘Northern Europe’ (available in Free Game and Sandbox modes)
- 3 historical engines: Odin (2-2-2), Prins August (2-4-0) and SJB II (4-6-0)
- 10 new tradeable goods (e.g. crisp bread and brown cheese) and 30 new cities
- ‘Concession’ feature: The map is divided into sections. Buy concessions to gain access to new building grounds (also available on the full North American map)
- Snow: Enhanced weather system for all northern regions in the game
- New regional soundtrack
But that’s not the only addition to Railway Empire and alongside this content pack we see a new Christmas update dropping. Version 1.11 adds in new seasonal Christmas decorations, the new ‘Dallas’ challenge and a series of tweaks and improvements to the game’s Challenge Mode. This all comes in free of charge as part of Kalypso’s ongoing ‘games as a service’ post-release support.
You’ll quite obviously need the base game of Railway Empire to hand prior to enjoying a trip to the North, but should you have that in place already then the usual Xbox Store, PlayStation Store or Steam Store will sort you out.
