I Am Angel – out now on Xbox and Play Anywhere

Heaven isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. After being betrayed and killed by someone he once trusted, the protagonist of I Am Angel gets a second chance at life – although this one comes with celestial powers, a rather serious grudge and an awful lot of demons to shoot.

Available today on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support, I Am Angel is a third-person action game that mixes gunplay, sword combat and supernatural abilities into an explosive battle between Heaven and Hell.

From Heaven To Hell

The story begins with a former police officer whose life comes to a brutally premature end when his own partner turns against him. Waking up in Heaven should offer some consolation, but eternal peace soon becomes its own kind of torment.

That’s when an angel presents him with a choice. Remain in paradise, or return to Earth with divine powers and put a stop to an apocalyptic scheme. But naturally, there’s a catch.

A former friend is now leading a satanic cult, using his wife’s blood in an attempt to summon Lucifer. Returning to the mortal world therefore means more than simply settling an old score – there’s a whole apocalypse to prevent along the way.

Shoot, Slash And Smite

I Am Angel is built around stylish, fast-moving combat that combines firearms with divine swordplay. Gun-fu combos allow players to blast their way through enemies before switching to the legendary sword of Archangel Michael when things get more personal.

The game also features seven archangels who act as mentors, each providing abilities capable of changing how the protagonist approaches combat. That means there’s room to develop a fighting style that suits you, whether that means leaning into brutal gunplay, supernatural powers or getting up close and personal with the sword.

The opposition isn’t exactly lacking in firepower either. Alongside armies of the damned, players will encounter fallen angels and demonic generals, with larger boss encounters designed to put those newly acquired abilities to the test.

The journey will take players from neon-lit Tokyo through heavenly realms and all the way to the burning gates of Hell, giving the game plenty of scope to turn up the spectacle.

A Battle Between Vengeance And Redemption

Underneath all that supernatural mayhem, I Am Angel is also looking to tell a more personal story about betrayal, sacrifice and redemption.

With combat drawing inspiration from stylish action games such as Devil May Cry, God of War and Bayonetta, I Am Angel is clearly aiming for a similarly flashy approach to its battles.

At ÂŁ12.49 from the Xbox Store, it also arrives at a price that makes it an intriguing option for anyone looking for a compact dose of supernatural action on Xbox.

Whether you’re fighting for Heaven, taking the fight to Hell or simply looking for an excuse to swing an angelic sword while blasting demons, I Am Angel is now ready to make its case on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
