All aboard the hype train – Monster Train 2 is coming!
Big Fan and Shiny Shoe have announced Monster Train 2, a full-fledged sequel to the acclaimed deckbuilding hit that sold over 1.5 million copies.
And because waiting is apparently a “hellish punishment,” a demo is available today on Steam, giving players a taste of the infernal (and celestial) action before the full game launches later this year on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S.
Heaven and Hell Unite Against a New Threat
Monster Train 2 cleverly expands on the original’s innovative vertical three-floor battle system, introducing a new challenge: stopping the Titans from destroying the world. This time around, the forces of Heaven and Hell must forge an unlikely alliance to venture into the Abyss, the Titans’ homeworld, and prevent total annihilation.
Five new playable Clans join the fray, each with unique strategic advantages and playstyles. Shiny Shoe has also shuffled in hundreds of new and familiar cards, including new card types like Room Cards, which provide powerful boosts to a single train floor, and Equipment Cards, which grant additional powers to individual units. Fan-favourite Neutral Cards also return, offering game-changing opportunities for those who wield them wisely. With new unit abilities and train customisation options, Monster Train 2 promises even greater strategic depth and replayability.
Endless Challenges and Leaderboards
Monster Train 2 introduces a wealth of new features, including an Endless Mode, Daily and Dimensional challenges, run mutators, and leaderboards. These additions, combined with the vast array of cards and synergies, ensure that both newcomers and seasoned veterans will find a challenging and rewarding experience.
A Heavenly Successor?
The original Monster Train was a smash hit, earning critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase. We loved it too, awarding it a 4.5/5 in our review and stating: “Monster Train may start on the same track as Slay the Spire, it soon takes enough turns that it finds itself somewhere different… Monster Train is more-ish to the extreme, and we’d worry about our social lives, if there was any social life to be had right now.“
With its expanded features, new challenges, and the same addictive gameplay that made the original so compelling, Monster Train 2 has the potential to be another stellar entry in the deckbuilding genre.
All Aboard the Hype Train!
If you’re eager to dive into the infernal (and celestial) action, the Monster Train 2 demo is available now on Steam. Wishlist the game to stay updated on its development and prepare for its full launch later this year on PC and consoles.
Whilst we don’t have confirmation either way at this time, it will be interesting to see if Monster Train 2 makes the most of Game Pass on Day One, as the original did. We’ll keep you looped.
