Vampire Therapist keyart as the game hits Xbox
Vampire Therapist – now on Xbox

Centuries of immortality can leave a lot of emotional baggage behind. Thankfully, someone is finally ready to help the undead talk it through as Vampire Therapist has arrived on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

This one comes to market bringing its unusual blend of narrative adventure, comedy and real-world therapy concepts to console players, and it does so for £12.49.

Developed by Little Bat Games and published by Ultimate Games, Vampire Therapist swaps swords and stakes for conversation and introspection, asking players to help centuries-old vampires confront their inner demons. Sometimes quite literally.

Meet The Vampire Therapist

In Vampire Therapist, players take control of Sam, a former Wild West gunslinger who has traded his violent past for a more… therapeutic calling.

Now a reformed vampire, Sam spends his nights helping other undead souls work through centuries of trauma, regret and existential confusion. Operating out of a gothic nightclub in Germany alongside a 3,000-year-old mentor, Sam guides fellow vampires through therapy sessions designed to help them confront the psychological struggles that come with eternal life.

It’s a premise that mixes humour, history and emotional storytelling into something rather unusual.

Therapy With Fangs

Unlike traditional visual novels, Vampire Therapist builds its gameplay around real cognitive behavioural therapy concepts.

Players listen to their clients’ problems and identify cognitive distortions; flawed ways of thinking that trap characters in negative emotional patterns. By challenging these ideas during conversations, players help vampires recognise where their beliefs might not match reality.

The system is designed to be both entertaining and educational, using real therapeutic techniques vetted by licensed professionals.

A Cast From Across The Ages

One of the game’s biggest strengths is its eccentric cast of characters.

Throughout the story, Sam encounters vampires from a variety of historical periods, including those from Ancient Greece, Renaissance Italy, Tudor England, and The Bronze Age.

Each client carries their own centuries-long emotional baggage, creating therapy sessions that are equal parts comedic and thought-provoking.

There’s more and the experience is further brought to life through an impressive voice cast. Actors include Matthew Mercer, Sarah Grayson, Francesca Meaux, Kylie Clark and game creator Cyrus Nemati, who many players may recognise from his work on Hades and Pyre.

The setting itself also plays a big role in the game’s tone. Much of the story unfolds above a moody European goth club, creating a distinctive blend of cosy introspection and dark supernatural style.

A Vampire Bundle Option

Xbox players can also pick up the Vampire Duo Bundle (£19.24), which includes Vampire Therapist alongside Vampire’s Fall: Origins.

When we reviewed Vampire’s Fall: Origins, we noted that while its dark RPG world had plenty of appeal, it also suffered from pacing issues and repetitive travel mechanics. Still, it offered an interesting take on the vampire genre – and now pairs with Vampire Therapist for a two-game undead package.

Therapy Begins Tonight

Vampire Therapist is available now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for £12.49, bringing its quirky blend of historical comedy, therapy mechanics and narrative adventure to console players. It’s on Steam too, if you prefer.

Whether you’re curious about cognitive behavioural therapy, enjoy unusual storytelling concepts, or simply want to hear centuries-old vampires talk about their feelings, this unusual indie title offers a therapy session unlike any other.

Just remember, even immortals sometimes need someone to talk to.
