Some games have spent decades building a reputation that feels almost impossible to recreate. Heroes of Might and Magic III is undoubtedly one of them, but Ubisoft is willing to take on the challenge, announcing a full remake of the legendary turn-based strategy game at gamescom Opening Night Live.
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is set to launch in 2027, bringing the classic adventure back with a rebuilt 3D world, modernised systems and plenty of familiar content for returning fans. It’s coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, PC via Ubisoft Connect, Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as Ubisoft+.

A Classic Adventure Rebuilt for a New Generation
The remake will retain the core blend of turn-based strategy, hero progression and tactical grid-based battles that made the original such a beloved part of the series. However, this isn’t simply a visual upgrade.
Ubisoft is also introducing quality-of-life improvements and new planning tools intended to make the experience more intuitive while remaining faithful to the original game’s foundations.
The biggest change, visually at least, comes through the move away from the fixed 2D isometric viewpoint. Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is being rebuilt from the ground up in the Snowdrop engine, introducing a fully realised 3D world with free camera control. Players can expect 4K visuals, dynamic lighting, changing weather and shifting seasons as they travel across Erathia.
The Complete Erathia Story
The remake will follow Queen Catherine as she attempts to restore order to her fractured kingdom following her father’s assassination and the invasion of hostile factions.
Importantly for long-time fans, the game will include the full content of the original release alongside both Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death expansions. That means all nine factions and the original campaigns will be part of the package.
This time around, the story will be presented as one continuous experience, with a new introductory prologue helping ease players into the world and its systems. New cinematics are also being produced for the remake.
Multiplayer, Hot Seat and Community Content Return
Heroes of Might and Magic has always been a series that lends itself particularly well to spending far too much time plotting against friends, and multiplayer is returning here too.
The remake will support solo play as well as online matches for up to eight players. Ubisoft is also promising improved matchmaking and a simultaneous turn system, while the much-loved Hot Seat mode will make its return.
Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of the announcement is Ubisoft’s commitment to the game’s long-standing community. Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake will retain compatibility with thousands of player-created maps and campaigns from the last 25 years. New editor tools and an in-game UGC hub will also make it easier to discover, download and share community creations.
A Modern Look Without Forgetting the Original
The audio is receiving an overhaul too, with voice acting, layered music and ambient effects designed to make the world feel more alive. New audio cues will also accompany combat, spellcasting and morale changes.
It’s clear that Ubisoft is trying to walk a careful line with this remake. There are substantial changes here – particularly the move to a fully 3D presentation – but the intention appears to be preserving the strategic heart of the 1999 original rather than reinventing it entirely.
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake will launch in 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, PC via Ubisoft Connect, Steam and the Epic Games Store, plus Ubisoft+.
And for those who would rather revisit the original while waiting, Ubisoft has also announced that Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete is now available to purchase on Steam.
