HexaScape Cyber Defense – now on Xbox and PC

Prepare to conquer cyberspace, one hexagon at a time as HexaScape: Cyber Defense lands on Xbox and PC with Play Anywhere support.

An addictive blend of hex grid puzzling and tower defense strategy, HexaScape: Cyber Defense has launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Developed and published by Clockwork Origins, this compelling turn-based title challenges you to build, defend, and adapt against ever-evolving digital threats.

After launching on PlayStation and Steam a few months ago (where it secured “Positive” reviews), HexaScape now brings its unique gameplay loop to the Xbox ecosystem for ÂŁ12.49.

If you enjoyed the tile-laying exploration of board games like Carcassonne, you’ll find familiar ground here, but with a distinct cybernetic twist.

Build Your World, Defend Your Core

In HexaScape, you don’t just place towers; you build the very world around them. Players place hexagonal tiles to explore cyberspace, expand the influence of their central cyber core, and strategically construct defense lines with upgradeable towers.

Placing towers on high ground, near power clusters, and leaving room for resource structures is key.

As you expand, virus spawners appear, unleashing waves of enemies that grow stronger over time. You’ll need to disable these spawners while simultaneously managing your defenses and resources. Towers gain experience, becoming more powerful the longer they’re on the board, adding another layer to your long-term strategy.

Roguelike Randomness and Infinite Replayability

Each run feels different thanks to randomised elements. Choosing the right upgrade paths – focusing on resources, magic towers, or fortified defenses – is crucial, and the random selection keeps you adapting. Viruses also gain new abilities as you progress, constantly testing your tactical flexibility.

The game offers multiple ways to play:

  • Campaign: Tackle predefined scenarios.
  • Endless Mode: Survive as long as possible on procedurally generated maps.
  • Maps of the Week: Take on curated challenges.
  • Map Editor: Create and share your own maps with the community!

Xbox Play Anywhere: One Purchase, Two Platforms

HexaScape: Cyber Defense supports Xbox Play Anywhere. This fantastic feature means if you buy the game digitally from the Microsoft Store, you own it on both your Xbox Series X|S console and your Windows PC.

Your progress, achievements, and saves sync seamlessly between both platforms, allowing you to defend cyberspace wherever you are.

Key Features

  • Unique Genre Blend: Hex-tile placement meets Tower Defense with Roguelike elements.
  • Build Your Battlefield: Place tiles to explore, expand, and create defensive positions.
  • Strategic Tower Defense: Place, upgrade, and customise towers with skills/buffs.
  • Roguelike Replayability: Random upgrades and evolving viruses ensure unique runs.
  • Multiple Modes: Campaign, Endless, Weekly Maps, and a powerful Map Editor.

Ready to Conquer Cyberspace?

HexaScape: Cyber Defense offers a compelling and deep strategic experience with near-endless replayability thanks to its random elements and map editor.

If you enjoy tower defense, puzzle mechanics, and roguelike challenges, this is one to check out. It’s available right now on the Xbox Store for ÂŁ12.49.

Boot up, build your defenses, and show those viruses who’s boss.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
