HYPERWIRED – getting ready to plug and shoot

A brand-new indie shooter is looking to spark something fresh in the roguelike genre – HYPERWIRED.

HYPERWIRED, the newly revealed 2D space shooter from SIDRALGAMES, is set to launch across Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC in summer 2026.

Published with the support of SelectaPlay and Entalto Publishing, the game introduces an unusual twist to top-down arcade shooting: a tethered power system that literally connects your ship to the battlefield.

The concept? Plug in, power up, and try not to get destroyed while your cable limits how far you can move.

A Shooter With A Shocking Twist

HYPERWIRED’s defining feature is its tethered gameplay mechanic.

Instead of freely flying across the battlefield at all times, players must physically plug their ship into power sockets scattered across the map. While connected, weapons and systems recharge and unleash devastating firepower.

But there’s a catch: your ship is literally attached by a cable.

That tether limits your movement range, forcing players to carefully balance positioning, firepower and survival while waves of enemies swarm the screen.

Stay plugged in too long and you risk getting overwhelmed. Disconnect too early and you might not have enough power to survive the next assault.

Roguelike Runs Across A Darkened Galaxy

HYPERWIRED follows a classic roguelike structure, meaning every run through the game will present a different challenge. Players will travel through procedurally generated sectors, fighting through enemy fleets and eventually facing massive bosses guarding each region of the galaxy.

To survive these increasingly dangerous encounters, players can experiment with a deep upgrade system featuring:

  • 250+ bullet modifier combinations
  • 40+ gameplay upgrades
  • 10+ unique ships with different attributes

Build A Fleet And Rescue Pilots

As players push deeper into the galaxy, they’ll encounter stranded pilots who can be rescued during missions.

These pilots expand your growing space force, providing additional support and strategic options in future runs. Combined with the wide variety of ships available, it creates a layered progression system where each attempt can feel dramatically different.

Success won’t just come from fast reflexes though. It’ll be careful planning and experimentation which will be key.

Plug In For HYPERWIRED In 2026

With its inventive tether mechanic and deep upgrade system, Hyperwired is shaping up to be a unique addition to the roguelike shooter scene.

When the game launches in summer 2026 across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC, players will be able to test their reflexes, experiment with builds and attempt to restore power to a galaxy plunged into darkness.

In HYPERWIRED, your greatest weapon might also be your biggest limitation.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
