ICARUS: Console Edition Drops Players Into A Survival Fight On Xbox And PlayStation

The keyart for ICARUS Console Edition on Xbox
ICARUS Console Edition – now on console

You can tell pretty quickly what kind of experience ICARUS: Console Edition is going for. It doesn’t ease you in, it doesn’t explain everything up front, and it certainly doesn’t try to make life comfortable. Instead, it lands you on a broken planet and expects you to figure things out as you go.

Now available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, this console version brings a survival game that’s been tested on PC straight into the living room, complete with all the harsh edges that come with it.

At A Glance

  • Game: ICARUS: Console Edition
  • Developer: GRIP Studios
  • Publisher: GRIP Studios
  • Price: ÂŁ32.99 (Standard Edition), ÂŁ124.99 (Ultimate Edition)
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5
  • Game Type: Survival / PvE

Surviving A Planet That Keeps Pushing Back

ICARUS isn’t just another survival sandbox. The setting itself does a lot of the heavy lifting. This was meant to be humanity’s next home, but the failed terraforming left behind something far less welcoming.

You’re constantly reacting to what the planet throws at you. Storms roll in and tear through your structures, fires spread faster than expected, and wildlife doesn’t hesitate to attack if you’re not prepared. Even just staying alive long enough to build something stable can feel like an achievement early on.

That’s really the hook here – survival isn’t just a mechanic, it’s the entire experience.

Finding Your Way Through Systems And Progression

What starts as a struggle for basic resources slowly opens up into something deeper. You move from crafting simple tools to unlocking more advanced tech, shaping your character through talents and specialisations.

There’s a nice sense of growth once things click. Early frustration gives way to confidence, and suddenly the systems that felt overwhelming begin to make sense.

As we mentioned in our review, “it can be extremely challenging early on… but battle through and it comes together nicely.” That pretty much sums up the journey found on ICARUS.

More To Explore With New Frontiers Included

One of the biggest advantages of the console version is that it arrives with the New Frontiers expansion already included.

That means a larger world straight out of the gate, with multiple maps, new biomes, and more dangerous regions to explore. The Prometheus area, in particular, pushes things further, introducing tougher enemies and more unpredictable environments. It’s not just bigger, it feels more varied too, giving you more reasons to keep pushing forward.

A Survival Game That Asks For Commitment

At £32.99 for the Standard Edition, ICARUS: Console Edition offers a lot of depth, but it’s not something you’ll fully appreciate in a quick session. This is a game that expects time, patience, and a willingness to learn through failure.

There’s also that ÂŁ124.99 Ultimate Edition, which bundles in a huge amount of extra content for those who know they’re in for the long haul. Yes, we know that’s a hefty price, but just check the Xbox Store page and you’ll understand exactly what you’ll be getting for your cash.

Either way, this is a survival experience that rewards sticking with it. Push through the early struggles, and there’s something genuinely rewarding waiting on the other side.
