Promising to deliver a beautiful story about space and self-discovery, Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home is looking to launch in the Fall of 2022.
From the Longterm Games team comes their debut title – Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home. This is a story about self-discovery and our understanding of the world around us, playing out via a 2.5D platformer as we follow the story of a dog named Bea, who has been sent into space. You’ll get to join Bea on this epic adventure, meeting a host of friendly (and not so friendly!) creatures from outer space.
Due to launch on Steam and Nintendo Switch later in 2022, followed by release on current and last-gen consoles (so Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5) at a later date, Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home should well appeal to fans of Ori and the Blind Forest, Inside, Limbo, and Journey.
It’s a game that has been inspired by real-world events, from when humans began investing in space exploration. You see, many intrepid animals paved our way to the stars – and saw up close what people would encounter years later. In Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home, Bea is the only animal to survive the journey.
The key gameplay features of Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home is based on three mechanics: senses, relationships, and companions…
- Senses – Bea is not a superdog. She doesn’t have any superhuman – or to be precise: superdog – powers. Just like any other dog, she can only rely on her senses: smell, sight, and hearing. These are the basics of “detective mode”, which will help her reach destinations and protect her from danger. In the unknown environments she can only rely on her instinct.
- Companions – While traveling across different worlds, Bea will befriend two entities: Comet Rose and the robot 8088Y. They will accompany her through most of the game, helping her solve puzzles and protect her – they will also influence the game’s ending. Each companion has unique abilities, which the player will have to use at the right moments throughout the game.
- Relationships – During her journey Bea will meet many extra-terrestrials. Some of them will be friendly, others will treat Bea as a threat. Players can interact with the creatures and communicate through the dialog system. This is based on the behavior of dogs – to create a bond, find a common language and help each other. However, you need to take care because every action will have consequences.
“Space Tail should be fun, in the first place, but also make players think, because it’s not a simple story about a dog in space. It’s our homage to every animal who leads our way to the stars and our journey to times, where every one of us played retro platformers” – said Robert Ogłodziński, Executive Producer in Longterm Games.
Longterm Games promise that Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home will be a game for everyone – no matter whether they are young, old, newbies or gaming veterans. It’s being created in collaboration with Enjoy Studio S.A, and will test your skills in logical thinking and creativity; however, these puzzles won’t distract from the story. It’s safe to say that the narrative is vitally important to the experience and has been created in cooperation with Łukasz Palkowski, award-winning polish director and screenwriter. Bea’s adventures will also be accompanied by a soundtrack from two, critically acclaimed polish composers, Jan Sanejko and Bartosz Chajdecki.
