Rusty Rangers
Rusty Rangers – out now on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch

In a chaotic technopunk universe where the past has been erased from memory, a new team of heroes rises to fight back. Rusty Rangers, a fast-paced roguelite platformer with Metroidvania elements, has officially released to the world, playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

PC players can look forward to the Steam version, which releases later on July 31st, 2025.

Expect a price point around ÂŁ12.49.

A World That Has Forgotten Itself

No one remembers what the world looked like before, except for the brave Rusty Rangers. Now, chaos reigns, harmless creatures have turned destructive, and the world itself constantly changes, nullifying any sense of a familiar environment.

The source of this madness is the villainous Baron von Gasenstein, who has plunged the world into chaos by erasing the past from everyone’s memory. As a member of the elite Rusty Rangers squad, it’s your mission to stop the madness, restore justice, and uncover the truth behind this catastrophic memory wipe.

A Symphony of Acclaimed Influences

Rusty Rangers blends nostalgia for retro platformers with modern roguelite depth, drawing inspiration from some of the best in the genre.

The core gameplay combines the speedy, fluid action of Dead Cells with a host of dynamic platforming options. Expect to master hook swinging, ride air currents, navigate deadly traps, and utilise destructible environments to your advantage as you battle through procedurally generated levels.

At the heart of the experience is a deep build system, inspired by the loot depth of games like Enter the Gungeon and Neon Abyss. You’ll collect and combine over 150+ items with stacking effects to create powerful and unique builds. Each of the 6 unique Rangers has their own combat style, skills, and starting items, providing a huge amount of strategic variety.

The Roguelite Loop & The Hub

Each run in Rusty Rangers starts by choosing a Ranger. You’ll explore one of four distinct zones – from Sewers filled with anthropomorphic mushrooms to a Factory overrun with robots – collecting items and battling bosses.

Victory unlocks the next level, while defeat sends you back to the central Hub. A typical session lasts about 60 minutes.

The Hub serves as your progression centre. Between runs, you’ll unlock 14+ base upgrades that open up new shops, challenging mini-games, and new modes like an Arena Mode (similar to Hollow Knight), a Boss Rush, and various Challenges (No Items, Speedrun, No Damage).

Key Features

  • Fast-Paced Roguelite Platforming: Combines the speedy action of Dead Cells with the deep, stacking-item builds of Enter the Gungeon.
  • 6 Unique Playable Heroes: Each with their own combat style, skills, and starting items.
  • Deep Build System: Experiment with over 150+ items with stacking effects to create powerful synergies.
  • Dynamic Platforming: Master hook swinging, air currents, traps, and destructible environments.
  • Persistent Hub Progression: Unlock 14+ base upgrades for new shops, mini-games, and modes like Arena, Boss Rush, and special Challenges.
  • Fragmented Narrative: Uncover a story of a forgotten past through artifacts, logs, and over 20 unique quests.
  • High Replay Value: Procedurally generated levels, random events, and multiple game modes ensure no two runs are the same.

The world may have forgotten its past, but the Rusty Rangers have not. If you’re a fan of fast-paced, action-packed roguelites with deep build variety and endless replayability, your next obsession has arrived.

Rusty Rangers is available now on the Xbox Store and other console platforms, like that of the Nintendo eShop.

Good luck, Ranger!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
