Ion Fury: Aftershock Expansion brings more ‘90s-styled FPS Action to PC and consoles this Summer

Ion Fury first launched onto Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC back in May of 2020, to deliver some serious old-school shooting action. It went down pretty well too and that initial response has seen the teams at Voidpoint, 3D Realms and 1C Entertainment get moving with an expansion – Ion Fury: Aftershock.

Due to arrive on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam this coming summer, Aftershock will continue the tale set in the original game.

It covers matters as Shelly Harrison has defeated Heskel in her previous adventure, just as she heads to a local bar to celebrate. However, as explosions interrupt her tasty beverage, she rushes out to find Heskel in a monstrous flying machine, cackling madly as he rockets away toward a mushroom cloud on the horizon.

Instinctively, she reaches for her Loverboy revolver, cocks it, and searches for the fastest transportation she can find – a sleek and powerful high-speed Hover Bike, armed with Drunken Homing Plasma Missiles. It is here where Ion Fury: Aftershock picks things up, taking on Shelly’s fight against Heskel with multiple brand-new zones to explore, new dangerous enemies, new armaments to destroy them with, and some amazing high-speed vehicle combat.

Like has been the case with many classic expansions, Aftershock offers a brand new Arrange mode for players to enjoy. Whether playing for the first time or revisiting Ion Fury, you’ll be able to choose Arrange mode to experience the original game but now enhanced with new enemies, weapons and more.

If you don’t know much about Ion Fury, then listen up. Rendered in the very same Build Engine that powered beloved titles like Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior, Ion Fury takes the classic shooter framework and injects a bit of modern mayhem with features like headshots. You see, Voidpoint didn’t just make a game inspired by the best ‘90s shooters: they practically time-travelled and created their own ‘90s shooter.

“Aftershock continues Shelly’s story in the best way possible: with rockets and high-speed chases,” said Mike Nielsen, CEO of 3D Realms. “We love seeing the Build engine continue to grow and Ion Fury: Aftershock does some awesome things that we can’t wait to share with you.”

You’ll find Ion Fury: Aftershock available in the Summer of 2021 on all the formats the standard game hit – Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam. You’ll also be able to play it on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. And if you haven’t yet grabbed the base game, the Xbox Store has it available for purchase right now.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
