xbox game pass

There are several video game subscription services available including EA Access, PlayStation Now, and while they’re great they certainly don’t hold up to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. This service launched back in 2017 and is described as the “Netflix for video games” due to its unlimited amount of content and cheap price.

Why Xbox Game Pass Is Better

Xbox Game Pass offers over 100 high-quality titles with new games being added and some removed periodically. The service currently offers content from several big-name developers including Bethesda, WB Games, Capcom, and even Microsoft’s own Xbox Game Studios, and it offers players with a selection of Xbox One, Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles.

When compared to main rival service PlayStation Now, it’s easy to see that they’re both rather similar. PlayStation Now, which launched back in 2014, offers more titles on PS4, PS3, and PS2 platforms. Some of the titles come from established developers like Bethesda and Rockstar Games, similarly to Xbox Game Pass. Other games come from Sony’s own PlayStation studios which offer exclusive titles like Bloodborne, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and more

The main difference between the two firms is that Xbox Game Pass allows users to download all games to their console and play them directly without having to worry about an unstable internet connection. Meanwhile, PlayStation Now only will enable players to download some PS4 and PS2 titles to their console, with all other games requiring a stable internet connection for streaming. On top of that, users seem to appreciate the full range of casino games that are available on Xbox. These include Pure Hold’em, World Series of Poker, High Rollers Casino and last but not least, Grand Theft Auto Online. The bestseller comes with its own casino that includes features you would only expect from top online casinos like the ones listed on rather than from a video game.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass also adds new releases to the service on launch date, allowing players to choose how to play at release by either purchasing a physical copy, purchasing a digital copy, or playing via the subscription service. PlayStation Now users must wait for new releases to be added further down the line.

It’s also important to note that both services can be played across multiple platforms. Both Game Pass and PlayStation Now can be used on Windows operating systems but not on Macs.

Finally, the price of each of the subscription services speaks volumes. New subscribers to the Xbox Game Pass can grab their first month for £1 and then £3.99 per month for a limited time over the main price of £7.99. This is far cheaper than what PlayStation Now is offering. Sony’s service offers new subscribers a 7-day free trial and then charges £8.99 per month, with two other tier options for a 3-month and 12-month subscription.

What Do We Think?

With all of this in mind, it’s clear that the Xbox Game Pass is the clear winner. Although PlayStation Now takes the cake for a better selection of titles, Xbox Game Pass provides its subscribers with a cheaper price model, new releases on launch date, and the freedom to install all games as they see fit. What more could you want from a subscription service?
