It gets weird on Game Pass with Deeeer Simulator and one other game on the service today

You’ve mastered being a goat in Goat Simulator, so now it’s time to become another hooved mammal in the form of Deeeer Simulator. It’s out today, and is a day one launch on Game Pass (Console, Cloud and PC) alongside one other title. Taking the weirdness down a notch, we also get Mortal Shell (Console, Cloud and PC), and these fit nicely with the recent drop of Microsoft Flight Simulator: Game of the Year Edition (Console, Cloud and PC) too.

We were always going to zoom in on the weird one. Deeeer Simulator is a self-described “slow-life town destruction game”. You are given free reign over a cosy, chaos-free city, where you can choose to fit in and complete mundane tasks, or you can rain destruction down on it as an antlered Godzilla. As a deer, you have some unexpected abilities, like swinging from lamppost to lamppost with a stretchy Spider-man neck, pushing your head through windscreens and driving cars, and rearing up on your hind legs to start a fight.

Like all the best gonzo games, we’re not sure what to make of it. You can be sure that we’re going to review it soon.

Slightly more of a known quantity is Mortal Shell. We see a fair few Souls-like games for review, but most of the time they’re hybrids – it’s Dark-Souls-meets-roguelike etc. Mortal Shell is one of the few games that takes Dark Souls on at its own game. So, if you’ve been growing impatient at the release date of Elden Ring and want your sadistic slice of action now, now, now, then Mortal Shell is well worth your time. Resident reviewer Paul Renshaw said “I love the gameplay, the lore and the general ambience, though the difficulty could be a little toned down if I’m honest” in his 4/5 review. Aw diddums.

Finally, Microsoft Flight Simulator has got itself a Game of the Year upgrade. What does this mean? A VERY good question. It’s a ‘thank you’ to the players who have been enjoying it for a year now, offering five new handcrafted aircraft, eight new airports, six new Discovery Flights and updated weather systems, and it incorporates all six World Updates. That will mean something to the pilots among you.

There’s only one more game planned for Game Pass this month. On the 30th is Evil Genius 2, for all you budding Dr Evils (Cloud, Console and PC).

We also say a tearful goodbye to a few games. On the 30th, Game Pass is losing Call of the Sea (Cloud, Console, and PC), FIFA 19 (Console and PC), Football Manager 2021 (PC), Football Manager 2021 Xbox Edition (Console and PC), Haven (Cloud, Console, and PC), Hello Neighbor (Cloud, Console, and PC), Morkredd (Cloud, Console, and PC) and Va-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action (PC).
