Marathon keyart, as the game releases on Xbox, PlayStation and PC
The Marathon starts NOW!

A mysterious signal. A vanished colony. And a planet crawling with rival scavengers ready to take everything you’ve got. Marathon has finally arrived. And it’s here for the long haul.

Marathon is here, bringing Bungie’s long-awaited extraction shooter to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, and throwing players straight into the dangerous world of Tau Ceti IV.

This new multiplayer sci-fi FPS marks Bungie’s return to the Marathon universe, decades after the original trilogy, and builds a modern extraction experience around high-risk PvPvE combat, scavenging and survival.

A Return To Bungie’s Sci-Fi Universe

Marathon isn’t just a brand-new multiplayer shooter – it’s also a revival of Bungie’s classic Marathon universe, first introduced in the 1990s.

Back in 2023, Bungie revealed the project publicly, confirming the studio’s return to the iconic sci-fi setting after years focused on Halo and Destiny.

Since then, the game has steadily evolved through gameplay reveals, trailers and playtests. Earlier this year Bungie confirmed a March 2026 release date, alongside new details about the world, factions and characters players would encounter on Tau Ceti IV.

Now the gates are open – and the race for survival begins.

Survive The Colony Of Tau Ceti IV

Marathon drops players into the ruins of Tau Ceti IV, a once-thriving colony where 30,000 inhabitants mysteriously vanished. The planet is now a hostile frontier filled with automated security forces, environmental hazards and rival scavengers known as Runners.

Every match sees players infiltrate zones across the planet in search of valuable resources. The challenge isn’t just finding loot, it’s escaping with it.

Fail to extract and everything you carried into the mission, along with any items you discovered, is lost. Successfully escape and you’ll build stronger loadouts for the next run.

Become A Runner

Players enter Marathon as bio-cybernetic mercenaries called Runners, equipped with specialised shells that define their playstyle.

Six core shells are available, each offering a unique tactical role, whether that’s aggressive frontline combat, reconnaissance or stealth-focused scavenging.

These shells form the foundation for deep customisation through:

  • Weapon modifications
  • Body implants
  • Core system upgrades
  • Build combinations tailored to different playstyles

With every successful run, your Runner grows stronger, but every deployment also risks losing everything.

Alliances, Betrayals And PvPvE Combat

Marathon blends player-versus-player and player-versus-environment combat, meaning danger can come from anywhere.

Teams of two or three can enter together, while solo players can also drop into matches and take their chances against larger squads.

The game also introduces proximity voice chat, allowing players to negotiate temporary alliances in the field. But trust is fragile.

A squad that helps you clear a hostile security force might also be the same squad that ambushes you when the extraction ship arrives.

The Mystery Of The Marathon

Beyond the firefights and scavenging lies a deeper narrative.

Something went terribly wrong during the original Marathon expedition. As players explore research facilities, security outposts and derelict zones, fragments of the colony’s history begin to surface.

Eventually, the action leads toward the orbiting UESC Marathon, where endgame players can tackle high-risk objectives and raid-like encounters.

What happened to Tau Ceti IV is still a mystery, but every run brings you a little closer to the truth.

Editions And Deluxe Bonuses

Players can pick up Marathon in two editions.

  • Standard Edition – £34.99
  • Deluxe Edition – £49.99, which includes several cosmetic rewards and progression bonuses such as:
    • Premium Rewards Pass Voucher
    • 200 SILK Rewards Pass Tokens
    • Midnight Decay weapon skins
    • Midnight Decay Runner cosmetic shells

The Marathon Begins

Marathon is available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, with cross-play and cross-save support letting players team up regardless of platform.

Years after its initial announcement, Bungie’s latest project finally opens the doors to Tau Ceti IV, a world where fortune favours the bold, survival is never guaranteed, and every extraction run could be your last.
