Got yourself an Antstream Arcade subscription? It’s your lucky day, as two new, old, games come to the streaming service. And they are utter classics too.
Over the last few months, Antstream players have had the opportunity to take in some cracking new games. There’s been a couple of personal favourites in the likes of Turrican and The Way of the Exploding Fist, complemented by a fun little Frogger clone.
Now two more games hit hard, literally, smashing through blocks, cracking skulls in the form of Breakout and Kung-Fu Master.
Breakout
We’ve been playing Breakout for years, and got right back into the block breaking with Atari’s Breakout: Recharged. But the chance to go back to where it all began is super appealing.
Breakout was developed way back in 1976, inspired by the original Pong.
it comes with a super simple, yet difficult gameplay loop, as you bounce a ball at a brick wall, back and forth, back and forth, smashing through. With increasing ball speed and the paddle getting smaller, breaking through to the back wall is a challenge for only the bravest retro gamer.
Kung-Fu Master
And then we have an old arcade classic from 1984 – Kung-Fu Master.
A side-scrolling beat ‘em up, you’ll get to take on the role of Thomas, fighting his way through the Devil’s Temple to save his girlfriend Sylvia from crime boss Mr. X.
This one first came about via inspiration from Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee movies, as the game switches to more of a one on one fighting game for each of the five boss battles. Kung-Fu Master was an incredible commercial success and led the way for many games since.
“A pair of classic games from the 70s and 80s are joining the extensive Antstream library this week, and they are both very much welcome. From skillfully moving a paddle to bounce a ball and break bricks, to fighting through a temple for love, both Breakout and Kung-Fu Master are sure to become firm favourites with the players.” – Steve Cottam, CEO of Antstream.
A new challenge!
Alongside the two new additions is another Antstream challenge. Head into First Samurai on the SNES for the “Life, Duty and Honour” challenge.
