From The Quick Stop To Total Mayhem
Chronic Blunt Punch wastes no time throwing players into the action. Starting from the familiar streets of New Jersey, the duo quickly find themselves battling through a bizarre journey that escalates into something far stranger, including a mystical mall with a grip on the city.
Expect enemies that feel ripped straight from a fever dream: hockey-stick wielding teens, dookie demons, hipsters with babies… it’s as chaotic as it sounds, and very much in line with the tone fans will expect.
A Beat ‘Em Up With A Bit More Bite
At its core, this is a classic side-scrolling brawler, but there’s more going on under the hood than simple button-mashing. Combat is built around chaining together combos, switching between Jay and Silent Bob on the fly, and timing special moves for maximum impact.
You can go solo, swapping between characters mid-fight, or jump into local co-op with a friend – your hetero lifemate – for the full experience. Either way, there’s a surprising amount of depth here for those willing to dig into the mechanics. This isn’t a typical button masher.
Cameos, Chaos And Comic Timing
One of the big draws here is the sheer amount of fan service. Characters from across the View Askewniverse pop up throughout the adventure, ready to assist or simply add to the madness.
And yes, the humour is exactly what you’d expect; irreverent, loud, and packed with callbacks. With voice work from Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith themselves, it feels authentically tied to the films that inspired it.
Kevin Smith summed it up simply: “An incredible amount of effort and artistry went into Chronic Blunt Punch.”
A Step Up From Mall Brawl?
If you’ve been following Jay and Silent Bob’s gaming outings, you’ll remember Mall Brawl. In our 2021 review, we noted that while it nailed the retro feel, it wasn’t for everyone, recommending that players might want to hold out for something bigger.
Well, this is that something.
Chronic Blunt Punch feels like a more ambitious take on the formula, expanding the scope, improving the presentation, and leaning harder into both gameplay and fan appeal.
Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch is a love letter to classic beat ‘em ups, wrapped in a layer of comedy and chaos that only this duo can bring. It’s not subtle, it’s not quiet, and it’s definitely not serious. But if you’re after a co-op brawler that embraces ridiculousness and rewards a bit of skill alongside the madness, this might just hit the spot.
You’ll find the game on the usual stores – like that of the Xbox Store. You’ll be able to play on Xbox Series X|S, Play Anywhere and PC.
