I Robot – coming later in 2025

Get ready for a mind-bending arcade experience as Atari and Llamasoft come together for a reworking of I, Robot.

From those behind Tempest 4000 and Akka Arrh, is a reimagining of the classic 1984 arcade shooter, I, Robot.

Developed by the legendary Jeff Minter, this new iteration promises a vibrant assault on the senses, blending retro gameplay with Minter’s signature psychedelic visuals and audio.

I, Robot is set to launch digitally on PC and consoles in Spring 2025.

Return to the Grind: A Robot’s Rebellion

In I, Robot, players take control of the iconic ox-headed robot in a battle against the all-seeing eye. The objective is simple: outwit the eye and escape its watchful gaze.

Navigate through a series of 3D platforming levels, flipping tiles to create pathways while avoiding the eye’s deadly gaze. Failure to do so results in instant zapping, sending you back to the beginning of the level.

Once you’ve successfully navigated the tile-flipping section, you’ll enter a high-speed tube-shooting sequence. Race down the tube, blasting away enemy shapes that impede your progress.

But don’t get too comfortable – Minter throws in arena levels that ramp up the challenge, requiring quick reflexes and strategic manoeuvring to survive the onslaught of enemies.

Ungame: A Chill Zone for the Senses

Need a break from the frenetic action? I, Robot offers an “Ungame” mode, where you can relax and enjoy the game’s mesmerising visuals and sounds without the pressure of enemy encounters. It’s a perfect way to unwind and appreciate the psychedelic beauty of Minter’s creation.

Key Features: A Retro-Fueled Ride

  • 55 Levels: Tackle a variety of platforming and arena levels.
  • Tube-Shooter Bonus Stages: Enjoy unique tube-shooting sequences between levels.
  • Mind-Melting Visuals: Experience Llamasoft’s signature psychedelic aesthetic.
  • Procedural Music: Immerse yourself in a dynamic soundtrack that evolves with your gameplay.
  • Online Leaderboards: Compete for the top spot against players worldwide.

A Quintessential Minter Experience

“Throughout his 45-year career, Jeff Minter has retained the spirit of a true indie developer, pursuing game concepts that catch his interest, working with a purposefully small team, and infusing his creations with his unique personal style,” said Ethan Sterns, Vice President of Games at Atari. “I, Robot — a reimagining of an obscure Atari arcade cabinet featuring a robot who has problems with authority — is quintessential Minter.”

Prepare for Sensory Overload

With its vibrant visuals, pulsating soundtrack, and challenging gameplay, I, Robot promises a captivating experience for fans of classic arcade games and those seeking a taste of Jeff Minter’s unique creative vision.

Get ready to break free from your creator and embark on a psychedelic journey when I, Robot launches on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, and Atari VCS in Spring 2025.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
