If you feel your Christmas period is devoid of a gritty sci-fi murder mystery to get your teeth into, then Assemble Entertainment’s Lacuna – A Sci-Fi Noir Adventure will sort you right out!
Releasing right now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4 – with a Switch release pencilled in for 28th December – you will be jumping into the boots of investigative agent Neil Conrad, who wakes up on one fateful morning to the news of a grisly murder. Through intense questioning and clue-finding, Mr Conrad will attempt to piece together the timeline of events that led to this awful event.
In travelling to a number of pixel-art landscapes, it is entirely down to you how you approach the case – every decision you make will impact the narrative in a meaningful way, and it isn’t always the best idea to be an open book. It’s sometimes best to hold back on some information, and as they always say – keep your friends close, but your enemies closer…
With a plethora of interactable items to make use of, a number of unique characters to question, all leading to one of multiple unique endings, there’s no shortage of content to work your way through. Assemble Entertainment are also keen to do away with the more tropey aspects of murder mystery titles, such as the point-and-click control scheme and pixel hunting that can really grind the gears of gamers.
Key features include:
- Here’s the deal – You are Neil Conrad, CDI agent. Awoken by the news of a murder, you rush into a case that will soon turn your life and the whole solar system upside down. Ask questions, collect evidence, and put the pieces together until the ugly truth reveals itself… or not.
- No takebacks – The story branches and ends based on your actions. There’s no going back. Sure, you can rush your way to the end – if you don’t mind paying the price. Play your cards right, and you might make it out alive.
- How far will you go? – Some questions don’t have a right answer. Will you sell out a friend to protect your family? Will you endanger a loved one in exchange for public safety? Will you keep the peace or reveal the horrible, world-shattering truth?
- Hungry for Point & Click Adventure? – While the classics were great in their time, Lacuna does away with the baggage of many adventure game tropes!
Fancy spending a few hours getting to the bottom of a murder mystery? Well, there’s no guarantee that even the great Neil Conrad can solve this one, but he can give it a go with your help. Lacuna can now be purchased through the Xbox Store for £16.74 if you are on an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One. Alternatively, you can find the game available on PS5, PS4 and PC, with a Switch release coming very soon.

Another cigarette tumbles into the abyss. The sun is slowly coming up, glistening in the sea of buildings below. I look up at the stars one last time before they disappear. They don’t provide any guidance. They don’t give a… I have to make this decision on my own, and very soon. Problem is, I don’t know how. I’ve never been able to figure out why I do what I do. Not really. No more time to think. I have to go.
