There are powerful warriors… and then there’s Conan. With the arrival of the Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel – Conan DLC, players on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC can now step into the boots of the legendary barbarian and carve a brutal path through Hel’s endless hordes.

Launching alongside a substantial free update, this drop doesn’t just add a new character; it injects raw aggression, new systems, and a fresh realm to conquer into an already intense roguelike experience.

Conan Arrives With Relentless Power

Conan isn’t here to play cautiously. His entire design revolves around pushing forward, overwhelming enemies, and turning defence into offence.

At the centre of his toolkit is the Triumph mechanic, which rewards aggressive play. The more enemies you defeat, the stronger Conan becomes, building stacks that allow him to shrug off incoming damage and remain in the thick of battle.

Combined with his natural critical damage boosts and a devastating Ram Dash ability that sends enemies flying, Conan feels like a force that thrives on chaos rather than control.

Three Paths, Three Ways To Dominate

What makes this DLC especially interesting is the flexibility in how Conan can be played.

Players can lean into raw strength with a heavy greatsword, adopt a more defensive stance with sword-and-shield combat, or go fully aggressive with dual blades and rapid strikes. Each approach offers a different rhythm, ensuring that Conan doesn’t feel like a one-note addition to the roster.

A New Realm To Explore

The Conan DLC doesn’t stop at a new playable hero. It also introduces a brand-new environment – Stygia.

This sun-scorched region brings its own identity to the game, filled with harsh visibility conditions, ancient ruins, and enemies rooted in dark magic. It’s a place that feels hostile from the moment you arrive, forcing players to adapt quickly.

At its heart lies a new boss encounter in the form of the Undead Jotunn, a wizard-king who uses illusion and deception to control the battlefield. It’s a fitting challenge for a character built on brute force.

Free Update Expands The Experience

Alongside the Conan DLC comes a major free update that adds even more to Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel.

The introduction of the God of Fate brings a risk-and-reward system that can dramatically influence each run. Players can gamble on powerful bonuses, but there’s always the chance that luck won’t be on their side.

Perhaps the biggest addition for many will be local co-op, allowing two players to tackle the chaos together. It’s been designed to keep the pace fast while encouraging coordination, adding a new layer of strategy without slowing things down.

Building On A Strong Foundation

When we reviewed Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, we awarded it a 4.5/5 score, praising its blend of roguelite systems and fast-paced combat: “a superb attempt at merging genres… gripping gameplay, diverse range of gods and abilities, and fun replay value.”

The Conan DLC feels like a natural fit for Jotunnslayer’s relentless gameplay. It doesn’t reinvent the formula, but it sharpens it, adding a character who thrives in the chaos the game already delivers so well.

With a new realm to explore, fresh systems to master, and co-op now in the mix, there’s never been a better time to dive back into Hel. Because sometimes, the only way forward… is straight through your enemies.
