Rain World The Watcher
Rain World The Watcher – out now

A journey beyond the familiar, into something glimpsed only in the shadows, awaits adventurous slugcats today.

Developer Videocult and publisher Akupara Games have officially launched Rain World: The Watcher, the second major DLC expansion for their critically acclaimed survival platformer.

This new content delves into uncharted territories, introducing new regions, creatures, and a standalone story that twists and upends all that players have become accustomed to.

Available now for ÂŁ12.49 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, The Watcher expands the already vast and unforgiving world of Rain World, challenging players to carve their own destiny amidst ripples of time and space.

Journey Beyond to a Warped World

Rain World: The Watcher invites players on a perilous expedition to a place only ever glimpsed in the fringes of the original game. The world beneath your slugcat’s feet is cracking and crumbling, and you must decide whether to hold onto the familiar or dive headfirst into the unknown.

The wilds that await in this expansion are unlike anything that has come before. Players will encounter:

  • Unknown Creatures: New and dangerous creatures stalk, climb, dive, and hunt, redefining the very balance of predator and prey.
  • New Breeds: Discover new breeds that rip, pluck, burrow, and hide, adding fresh challenges to survival.
  • A Lonely Lost Slugcat: At the heart of it all, a lonely, lost slugcat strives to outlast the ravages of this warped world, forcing players to adapt their strategies as they navigate a truly alien environment.

New Unlockables and Enhanced Co-op

This expansion also brings several new features to enhance the overall Rain World experience:

  • New Unlockables and Arena Support: Discover new unlockables and enjoy expanded support for Arena Mode.
  • Jolly Co-op: The DLC features Jolly Co-op support for all new slugcat campaigns, allowing you to brave the new regions with friends.
  • New Endings & Items: Uncover new endings to the story, find powerful new items, and much more!

Expanding a Unique Survival Gem

Rain World has always been a game that demands patience and rewards perseverance. In our 4/5 review of the base game, we noted its initial difficulty but ultimately celebrated its unique atmosphere and rewarding exploration:

Rain World does have a danger of being dismissed out of hand, especially in the early moments. It doesn’t hold your hand, you fast get lost and the difficulty is trying. But exploring this world and experiencing the adventure of your beloved slugcat is, ultimately, rather amazing.

The Downpour expansion further enhanced this, and in our 4/5 review of Rain World: Downpour, we stated it was “another great adventure with plenty of hours of gameplay to get your teeth into and enjoy.

The Watcher continues this tradition, adding even more of the challenging exploration, clever AI, and emotionally rich experiences that developer Videocult is known for. By introducing a standalone story that twists and upends player expectations, it promises to be another memorable journey into the esoteric.

Will you follow the strings of eternal darkness or carve your own destiny? The choice is yours in the forlorn world of Rain World. The Watcher DLC is available to download now from the usual stores. We’ll point you to the Xbox Store.
