Obsidian bring their RPG-expertise to the table once again as The Outer Worlds is made available today on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC – with an Xbox Game Pass debut taking hold.

Having previously worked on Fallout: New Vegas and South Park and the Stick of Truth, The Outer Worlds see’s Obsidian working on their own-IP for the first time in a long time. Set in an alternate universe where the mega corporations – having conquered all of Earth – turn their attention to the stars, players are left with many choices as they learn which factions to side with, and who to avoid.

“Halcyon is a colony at the edge of the galaxy owned and operated by a corporate board. They control everything except for the alien monsters. Find your ship and explore the settlements, space stations, and other diverse locations in the Halcyon colony,” or so says the brochure.

Choices are also apparent with a robust character creation screen that in our review promises to “create some truly monstrous creations.”

You can also give your character flaws that may hinder you against a certain enemy type, or restrict speech choices, but these will offer additional and unique perks elsewhere for your character to enjoy.

The Fallout inspirations continue to come with the first-person perspective, a branching storyline and factions to side with, character interactions and companions, and an utterly twisted sense of humour. Those who have previously played and enjoyed New Vegas will feel right at home with The Outer Worlds.

And best of all for Xbox Game Pass subscription holders, The Outer Worlds is on there right now from day one!

For those who have still not yet invested in one of the best deals in gaming right now, The Outer Worlds is available to purchase from the usual game stores priced at £49.99 for both Xbox One and Windows 10. You’ll also find it available on PS4.
