Hidden Depths
Hidden Depths – available on Xbox

It’s no secret that platformers are the easiest games to make: everyone knows what they need to do, and chucking in a few spikes and enemies will allow you to call it a day. There’s a reason that they release at the rate of multiple a day on the Xbox Store.

Hidden Depths is the latest of such titles.

What Secrets Lie Within?

Now available on Xbox consoles, Fa Games’ Hidden Depths positions itself as a challenging 2D platformer. Indeed, the sheer amount of spikes to be found in any of the 30 levels included within is enough to back up this claim.

As is the case with any platformer, your goal is to jump between the safe areas of every fixed-screen level, and avoid any obstacles (spikes, false platforms, spinning saws) and make it to the end of the level. If Indiana Jones featured in a pixelated platformer, he would undoubtedly do it in Hidden Depths.

And, well, that’s pretty much all there is to it! Hidden Depths is a simple platformer that is sure to delight fans of the genre, so why not check it out today?

Key Features

  • Challenging Precision Platformer: This is a demanding 2D platformer with a retro pixel art aesthetic, where accurate movement is crucial for survival.
  • Single-Screen Puzzles: Each of the 30 stages is a self-contained, fixed-screen level designed as its own deadly puzzle for you to solve.
  • An Explorer’s Perilous Journey: You take on the role of a young adventurer who follows an ancient map into a mysterious and trap-filled cave.
  • Simple Yet Deadly Gameplay: The core mechanics involve using precise jumps and dashes to navigate past a host of lethal hazards, such as spikes, saws, and collapsing blocks.
  • Key and Door Progression: To advance through the game, you must first collect the key within each level before you are able to unlock the exit door.
  • Instant Restarts for Mastery: The game encourages trial-and-error gameplay with an instant restart function, allowing players to quickly try again after failing, in pursuit of mastering each stage.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
