KEMCO Collection 6
KEMCO Collection 6 – now on Xbox

Just when you thought your JRPG backlog was safe, KEMCO is back with another tempting collection of retro-inspired adventures with the KEMCO RPG Selection Vol. 6 on Xbox.

Available right now, the KEMCO RPG Selection Vol. 6 arrives on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, packaging four more titles from their extensive library into a single bundle for £33.49.

It’s a familiar and often successful strategy from the publisher, offering gamers a convenient way to dive into multiple worlds. But as veterans of these bundles know, the quality can be a mixed bag. So, what tales of heroism and nostalgia are packed into this sixth volume, and how do they stack up based on our own past adventures with them?

Our Previous KEMCO Bundle Coverage

We’ve been on this journey with KEMCO for a while. You can check out our thoughts on their previous collections, as we covered Vol. 5, Vol. 4, Vol. 3, and Vol. 2. There’s also the small matter of a huge 50 games KEMCO bundle too.

What Adventures Await in Volume 6?

This latest selection, developed by the prolific Exe Create Inc., brings together four distinct fantasy RPGs. Let’s break down what’s on offer.

Asdivine Kamura

First up is a trip to a grand, Japanese-style fantasy world where you join four companions to reclaim a modified world.

We found this to be a solid entry in the long-running series, stating in our review that “Asdivine Kamura on Xbox does everything you’d expect… and as such is a worthy bearer of the name.” We felt the story was compelling and the battles were fun, making it “worthy of a play through.

Alphadia Genesis

Next is Alphadia Genesis, an epic revolving around a powerful energy source called ‘Energi’. This one left us with mixed feelings.

In our review, we noted it was a “game of two halves,” praising the story but criticising the gameplay grind. We concluded that “a lack of new ideas and new enemies make things a chore to play,” and suggested there are “much better KEMCO JRPGs out there.

Liege Dragon

This adventure follows a boy who has lost his memory and a princess who has lost her father as they face the threat of an evil dragon.

We found this to be a perfectly average JRPG experience. Our review called Liege Dragonvery much just ‘some JRPG’,” but conceded that “the story may hook you enough to see out the ending.” It’s not a standout, but we felt it was “not too bad.

Dragon Lapis

Finally, a dose of pure retro nostalgia. Dragon Lapis combines old-school graphics and sound with modern sensibilities in an adventure involving two dragons. We found this one to be a charming, if simple, experience.

Our review summed it up as “easy, but fun,” and while we had issues with the controls, we felt that “all in all it’s a pretty good little playthrough,” especially for those who “like a retro JRPG, but aren’t very good at them.

So, Is This £33.49 Bundle a Good Deal?

Looking back at our own verdicts, the KEMCO RPG Selection Vol. 6 is the epitome of a mixed bag. You’re getting one we quite enjoyed (Asdivine Kamura), one we found to be a bit of a chore (Alphadia Genesis), one that was serviceable but forgettable (Liege Dragon), and one that was simple, retro fun (Dragon Lapis).

For £33.49, you are certainly getting a lot of game time, but the consistency of quality isn’t guaranteed. This bundle seems best suited for the dedicated KEMCO faithful who know what to expect and are happy to take the rough with the smooth, or for newcomers looking for a broad sample of the publisher’s signature style. If you’re selective, you may be better off cherry-picking the individual titles that appeal most.

If you’re ready to dive into another quartet of JRPG adventures, you can grab the KEMCO RPG Selection Vol. 6 from the Xbox Store right now for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
