Mortal Kombat 1 Definitive Edition – out now!

It’s time to test your might, again, but this time with everything included and then some in Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition!

Warner Bros. and the acclaimed NetherRealm Studios have today launched the Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition. This comprehensive package is now available digitally for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).

Xbox players can grab this ultimate version for £54.99, all via an Xbox Store download.

This launch marks a significant milestone, as the Mortal Kombat videogame franchise has now sold over 100 million units worldwide , and this Definitive Edition aims to be the most extensive Mortal Kombat 1 experience yet.

What Makes This Edition So “Definitive,” You Ask?

The Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition is absolutely stuffed with content, bundling the main game with all previously released downloadable content (DLC) and throwing in some brutal new additions.

Get ready for the fan-favourite Animalities to make their glorious return. These finishing moves allow all playable characters to morph into their spirit animal to utterly annihilate defeated opponents.

Adding to the visual flair, the Definitive Edition also introduces new character skins (outfits) for Johnny Cage, Kitana, Scorpion, and Shao Khan inspired by New Line Cinema’s upcoming Mortal Kombat II film (in theatres this fall).

You’ll also get the Mortal Kombat (2021) movie character skin for Sub-Zero and a tournament-themed skin for Liu Kang.

The full package includes :

  • Mortal Kombat 1 Main Game
  • Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Story Expansion
  • Kombat Pack Fighters: Quan Chi, Ermac, Takeda Takahashi, Omni-Man (Invincible), Peacemaker (DC’s Peacemaker), Homelander (The Boys)
  • Kombat Pack Kameo Fighters: Tremor, Khameleon, Janet Cage, Mavado, Ferra
  • Kombat Pack 2 Fighters: Noob Saibot, Cyrax, Sektor, Ghostface (Scream Franchise), Conan the Barbarian, T-1000 (Terminator 2)
  • Kombat Pack 2 Kameo Fighter: Madam Bo
  • Shang Tsung Fighter
  • Jean-Claude Van Damme Character Skin (Voice, Likeness, Outfit) for Johnny Cage
  • The aforementioned NEW Mortal Kombat II Movie Skins (Johnny Cage, Shao Khan, Kitana, Scorpion) and the (2021) Movie Skin for Sub-Zero, plus the Tournament Liu Kang Skin.
  • Khaos Reigns Pre-Order Skins: Wedding Scorpion, Ultimate MK3 Sub-Zero, Empress Mileena, Ultimate MK3 Noob Saibot
  • Havik Instant Unlock & Kameo Unlock Pack
  • 1,250 Dragon Krystals

A Second Chance for a Flawless Victory? Our Previous Thoughts

When Mortal Kombat 1 first launched, we dived into Liu Kang’s new era. In our 3.5/5 review of the original release, we found a lot to like, particularly the story and the potential of Invasions mode, but felt something was missing:

Whilst definitely touted as a reboot in pre-release info, Mortal Kombat 1 has taken a few too many steps back. The fighting feels stripped back from previous editions, reverting to a technique that fighting games were using years ago, rather than evolving. The story is great fun to watch, and Invasions mode definitely has some legs to it, at least when more content is added. But there is a general sense across the board, from the fighting to the different modes, to the roster and new features, that more could have been done with Mortal Kombat 1.

Perhaps this Definitive Edition, with its wealth of additional characters, the expansive Khaos Reigns story, and the return of beloved features like Animalities, is the “more” we were looking for.

Pricing, Upgrades, and Getting Your Kopy

The Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition is available now digitally for £54.99 on Xbox Series X|S. It’s also on PS5, Switch and PC.

For those who already own the base Mortal Kombat 1 game, you can continue the fight with the Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition Upgrade. That one comes in at £49.99.

FINISH HIM (with Content)!

The Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition certainly looks like the ultimate way to experience NetherRealm Studios’ latest brutal brawler. With a massive roster, an expanded story, new finishing moves, and fresh movie-inspired looks, there’s never been a more comprehensive package for fans or newcomers looking to dive into Liu Kang’s new era.

It’s out now – choose your fighter!
