Some games let you build a farm. Others let you run a business. A few ask you to save the world. Kynseed somehow manages to roll all of those ideas into one adventure – and after earning a ‘Very Positive’ reception on Steam since its 2022 launch, it’s finally made the jump to consoles.
Launching today on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, Kynseed comes from PixelCount Studios, a team founded by veterans of the Fable series. Console players won’t be getting a cut-down version either. Instead, they’ll jump in with a good few years of major updates already included.

A Life That Spans Generations
Kynseed isn’t just about the character you create – it’s about the family you leave behind.
Set in the handcrafted world of Quill, your adventure begins by planting the magical Kynseed itself, with every decision helping shape your family’s future. As time passes, characters grow older, children are born, and eventually you’ll step into the shoes of the next generation to continue the story.
It’s a clever twist on the life sim formula, turning what might have been a single adventure into a family legacy that unfolds over decades.
Farming, Fighting… Or Running The Local Tavern?
In good old fashion Fable style, there’s no shortage of ways to spend your days in Quill, either.
If peaceful farming is your thing, you can grow crops, customise your home and gradually build the perfect countryside retreat. If business is more appealing, you can become a blacksmith, open a general store, brew potions or, thanks to the latest content update, run your own bustling tavern complete with staff, regulars and plenty of refreshments.
Of course, life isn’t entirely peaceful. Dark faery creatures roam beyond the villages, strange artefacts offer powerful rewards at the cost of years from your life, and the mysterious Hob army is never too far away.
The Complete Kynseed Experience
Console players arrive at an ideal time. Since launching on PC (Steam) in late 2022, Kynseed has received more than 10 major content updates, adding everything from deeper story content and new regions to extensive farm customisation, progression tracking, quality-of-life improvements and the brand-new Tavern Update.
All of that content is included from day one on consoles, alongside an interface and control scheme designed specifically for gamepads. And we think it works really well too. Give our review of Kynseed on Xbox a read and you’ll be able to find out more.
“With Kynseed, we wanted to carry across that Lionhead creativity and humour and create a game with the spirit of the Fable games we worked on and loved for so many years,” said Charlie Edwards, Co-founder and Design Director at PixelCount Studios. “The team has been working hard to extend this ethos through to the console launch, and we’re excited to bring more players into the world of Kynseed and the many adventures to be had there.“
Your Legacy Begins Today
Whether you’re interested in farming, shopkeeping, monster hunting or simply watching your family tree grow across generations, Kynseed looks to offer an impressive amount of freedom wrapped up in a charming fantasy world.
It’s available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One (through the Xbox Store for ÂŁ19.99), PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
