Some of the very best games have emerged from the indie scene over the years, and come 2021 we’ll be seeing another entry from a hugely exciting indie developer. Last Days of Lazarus is coming to Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, and with the history of the team behind it, this is one first person adventure that you should be keeping a serious eye on.

Last Days of Lazarus has been created by the indie developer Darkania Works, with the publishing team at GrimTalin helping push it out to market. Now that name may not be instantly familiar to you, but if you have even dipped the smallest of toes into the PC world in recent years, you’ll possibly know of it. You see, Darkania Works is George Remus, the creator of the critically acclaimed Gray Dawn – a game that has taken some serious Steam praise.

Last Days of Lazarus is the next title from Remus, and this one plays out as a first person adventure that deals with a strong narrative and super rich visuals. Coming to PC via Steam in early 2021, with an Xbox One and Nintendo Switch launch planned for just after, Last Days of Lazarus will drop you into a post-soviet Eastern Europe world, before telling the story of a troubled man returning to his childhood home after his mother’s death to spend some time with his sister, Lyudmila. The problem is, as the country around him starts to fall apart, so does reality itself – and this results in a series of strange events that lead him on a quest to find out more about his family’s disturbing past.

Drawing inspiration from the post soviet era, and infusing that with a Gothic vibe and supernatural elements, in Last Days of Lazarus you will be met with questionable characters whose corrupted version of the truth may be difficult to navigate. With a troubled past yourself, you’ll struggle not only with solving the mysteries laid upon you but also with keeping any sliver of hope for salvation alive.

Features of Last Days of Lazarus on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam include:

  • Relive the post-soviet Eastern European era in a bone-chilling setup
  • Experience an enthralling story about death, suffering, spirituality, and politics, where a disturbing plot merges with unexpected twists
  • Follow two additional narrative paths, each with different characters, story and places to explore
  • Visit diverse and stunning environments inspired by the Eastern Mysticism and the idyllic Romanian scenery, with dread and gore playing the counterbalancing role

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as to how development and release of Last Days of Lazarus on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC goes. For now though, check out the trailer below – let us know your thoughts in the comments.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
