Just as Max Verstappen has sewn up the F1 2022 Drivers Championship, EA and Codemasters continue to build out their virtual podium topper, delivering some all-new content to F1 22; content that includes a full F2 2022 Championship, Mika Häkkinen as an in-game Icon and more.
F1 22 is probably the F1 game you should be playing. It may not have scored quite as highly as F1 21 in review, but it’s still our preferred racer, giving us the chance to prove ourselves as the fastest racers on the planet, going deep into our inner Verstappen and Hamilton.
It’s a game that EA and Codies have continued to bolster too and from October 11th 2022 a host of new features come to the game. It’s the F2 season which takes the spotlight with the 2022 FIA Formula 2 World Championship as players can now take to the grid for the 14-round season – including the F2 Sprint race – competing against new contenders Logan Sargeant, Jack Doohan and the latest Champion, Felipe Drugovich.
Further to that and the My Team mode gets a surprise drop on October 17th as Mika Häkkinen becomes the latest in-game Icon. One for the veterans of the sport, the ‘Flying Finn’ won back-to-back World Championships in 1998 and 1999 and was one of the most respected drivers of his generation. Champions Edition players can ignite old rivalries whilst competing against other in-game Icons, including Michael Schumacher, whom Häkkinen called his greatest rival.
Better still and following the FORMULA 1 HONDA JAPANESE GRAND PRIX 2022, McLaren Racing’s Future Mode special livery, inspired by the futuristic and innovative landscapes of Singapore and Japan, has also been included as a free download for all players for a limited time. Players will also have the option to permanently download the Future Mode livery for free from December and equip it to the player car.
Thought that was enough? EA and Codemasters disagree and just as the F1 season heads to the US, all players will receive free US-inspired content via the in-game mail. Kicking in from October 17th will be a US-inspired Stars and Stripes livery, helmet, race suit, and gloves, all available alongside The Griddy podium celebration. The dance craze, which took US sports celebrations to an entirely new level, finally makes its way into F1 22 for all player-created drivers.
Further customisation items are also available to unlock throughout the 30 Free and VIP tiers of Podium Pass Series 3, launching on October 12th.
“We’ve packed so much into the latest update with something for all players,” said Paul Jeal, Senior Director F1® Franchise at Codemasters. “Whether it’s vibrant Podium Pass items, crazy dance celebrations, a new racing icon, or the full 2022 F2 season, players have lots of new content giving them the perfect excuse to head back onto the track.”
If you’ve not yet played F1 22 then make sure you pick up a copy of the game on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 or PC. The Xbox Store will sort you out with an Xbox copy of the game.
