Lay the beat down with Mayhem Brawler on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC

There’s more than a hint of Streets of Rage 4 about Mayhem Brawler, and following on from the weirdness of Doughlings: Arcade and Invasion, we’re not really too sure how the Hero Concept team are playing it, but we’re well up for a rumble as Mayhem Brawler beats down all comers to launch on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC, Mayhem Brawler is the latest to come rolling out of the Hero Concept stable – but this one is a world away from their other releases.

Whilst Doughlings: Arcade and the follow-up, Doughlings: Invasion took the brick-breaking and Space Invaders routes respectively, Mayhem Brawler is pulling no uncertain punches – this is a Streets of Rage wannabe. Nothing more, nothing less.

Working a fantasy themed beat ’em up style, Mayhem Brawler will whisk you back to the arcades of the 1990s as you take charge of the trio of Dolphin, Star and Trouble – three cops who find themselves at the centre of attention, hoping to deal with the altering fate of an entire city.

It’s priced at £16.74 and will see you tackling the brawling bouts either alone, or via a cooperative feel with your nearest and dearest. This is a local multiplayer/cooperative battler – and we’re desperate for some online beatdowns – but everything else about Mayhem Brawler certainly looks to entice. It’s got that artstyle that we know and love, it’s got a host of combos and specials to utilise and it’s even got a story to pay absolutely no attention to. Admit it, you’re hear for the punching and kicking madness.

Throw in a variety of endings, a host of enemies to fight against and what Hero Concept promise is a ‘fresh take on classic 90’s style beat ’em ups’, and the ingrediants that have gone into Mayhem Brawler should ensure this is a tasty affair.

If you want more though, the key features are…

  • A fresh take on classic 90s-style beat ’em ups
  • Offline co-op mode that supports up to 3 players
  • Ability to alter the game flow with player-led decisions
  • 3 unique endings based on player’s choices
  • 3 playable characters against 30 mobs including 12 unique bosses
  • Hand-drawn comic book inspired art, frame-by-frame animated characters and a rocking soundtrack
  • Your admission ticket to the limitless universe of Mayhem
  • Unique combat mechanics

We’ll have a full review as soon as we can, letting you know how Mayhem Brawler plays out on Xbox. In the meantime, you’ll find the usual stores holding the downloads you require, with the Xbox Store being our favourite. Expect to find the game on PlayStation, Switch and PC too.

Game Description:

Mayhem Brawler is an urban fantasy themed beat ’em up that brings back the 90s arcade vibe to present day. With comic book style art and kick-ass soundtracks, it offers a unique experience that you can tackle solo or as co-op with friends while defining the next step in the story with your choices. TO PROTECT AND SERVE While answering a routine call on a patrol, Dolphin, Star, and Trouble -the most popular officers of the super-powered law enforcement agency, Stronghold- find themselves in a sequence of events that will alter the fate of the entire city. EXCESSIVE FORCE Let’s get one thing straight; if you ever think that a day in the life of a super-powered law enforcer is easy, you couldn’t be more wrong, as there are greater threats than street gangs in urban fantasy themed Mayhem Brawler. Using your arsenal of combos and special abilities, you and your co-op teammates should make life miserable for those super-powered criminals, fend yourself from the fury of werewolves, resist the hexes of street wizards and confront the megacorp led by vampire houses that enforce their goons to do their dirty deeds. THE MAYHEM UNIVERSE Comic book inspired hand-drawn backgrounds and frame-by-frame animations coupled with a kick-ass soundtrack will deliver a jolt of adrenaline to your controller. With the choices you make, you will shape the flow of the story and finally reach one of the three different endings in Mayhem Brawler universe, where each corner has a story to tell.
