Available at a zero price thanks to the Xbox Games With Gold scheme for March 2017, Layers of Fear brings enough horror to make you start questioning your own mind. Normally priced at £15.99, as long as you are the proud holder of a valid Xbox Live Gold membership, then you have until the end of March to get your download in. After which, that price will shoot straight back up again and you’d have missed out forever more.
Layers of Fear brings a great story, all told via the countless pieces of art you’ll stumble upon, as everything unfolds the more you explore the world around you. It’s a full-on creepy environment that will draw you in before attempting to scare you witless. Unfortunately, the repetition it brings, and the overall lack of tension it delivers sees Layers of Fear fall just short of being a stunning horror thriller.
But hey, it’s free, and we shouldn’t ever ignore something that costs nothing.
