Now available on Xbox consoles, following on from a March 2024 debut on PC, BattleCakes comes to us from developers Volcano Bean.
A turn-based RPG in the purest form, gameplay-wise things play out like a classic Final Fantasy title: recruit members to your party, use abilities against enemies, and ensure you emerge from the fight with some HP left.
Story-wise, we can’t recall a Final Fantasy adventure about a merry bunch of anthropomorphic cakes like Birthday Sprinkle and Red Velvet, so let’s chalk this one up as a first. In fact, so happy-go-lucky is BattleCakes, that you can actually choose to befriend your enemies, as opposed to beating them into a frosted pulp.
We’re hoping this one is as fun as Cake Bash.
