The original game was one of the most original, disturbing, suspense-fuelled rides of 2017 as Bandai Namco and Tarsier Studios teamed up to deliver Six into the world. Now though Six is back – just this time she has a friend!

Little Nightmares II is the next instalment in the Little Nightmares franchise, as Tarsier and Bandai once more provide a bit of a disturbing experience. This time round the main story focuses on Mono, a young boy trapped in a world distorted by the humming transmission of a distant Signal Tower. With the returning Six – the girl made famous in the yellow raincoat – they set out to discover the grim secrets of the world whilst fleeing from the monstrous residents out to capture them.

The adventure in Little Nightmares II will see us taking charge of Mono as Six joins the fun as a computer-controlled companion. The relationship between the two children will however play a huge role within the game’s story and the new gameplay mechanics will only work if the children pull together to traverse through the world.

At certain points in the game, Mono will also be able to wield a range of items picked up in the environment. This is a new mechanic that has been added to Little Nightmares II in order to bring an extra layer of complexity to the puzzles and encounters with enemies. There will of course be times when the stealthy approach remains the best option, as you sneak past towering enemies, while at other times you will have to think quickly to save both yourself, and Six.

But that’s not all that is new and in Little Nightmares II you will be found venturing outside of The Maw to explore some new environments including a dark wilderness as you come up against new enemies, such as the sadistic Teacher.

Little Nightmares II will launch on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC Digital in 2020. We can’t wait! Can you? Let us know your thoughts about returning to this crazy world by posting in the comments.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
