Lonely Guardian
Lonely Guardian – out now on Xbox, PlayStation and PC

A sacred mission, a mythical hero, and a relaxing journey through a mystical world – this is the setup for Lonely Guardian, a 2D platformer that has just appeared on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC storefronts.

From the incredibly prolific Afil Games, Lonely Guardian is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with prices starting at just £4.19.

Prepare to take on the role of a mythical creature from East Asian culture, in a charming and accessible adventure where every level is a short and rewarding challenge.

The Foo Dog’s Quest

In Lonely Guardian, you play as a Foo Dog, a mythical creature on a sacred mission. Your task is simple but vital: in each of the game’s 30 levels, you must collect the Mystic Pearl, rescue a lost pup, and make it safely to the temple gate.

This is a platformer designed to be instantly understood, with no complex tutorials or complicated menus. You’ll need to master precise jumps to navigate fixed, moving, and collapsing platforms while avoiding dangerous spikes.

Your main tool is the purifying roar, a special ability that defeats the ghostly yokai, breaks stone blocks, and opens up hidden paths.

Your adventure will take you across 30 handcrafted levels divided into two unique biomes. The journey begins in the Sacred Temple Ruins, a serene setting of stone courtyards overgrown by nature, where you’ll learn the core mechanics. From there, the challenge moves to the Forest of Echoes, a mysterious nocturnal realm lit by floating lanterns, where more aggressive yokai and new hazards await.

Another Chapter in the Afil Games Library

Publisher Afil Games continues its relentless charge of bringing fun, budget-friendly puzzle and arcade games to the console space.

This new mystical platformer joins a massive library that has recently included the post-apocalyptic hamster puzzler Cookie’s Trails and the tropical-themed Hula Hula Wee.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
