The kingdom has fallen, the king has lost his mind, and forbidden magic has made an already bad situation considerably worse. Mad King Redemption is now available for ÂŁ12.49 on Xbox Series X|S and PC with Play Anywhere support, bringing together classic beat ’em up action and roguelite progression.

At A Glance

  • Game: Mad King Redemption
  • Developer: Secret Mission Games
  • Publisher: Secret Mission Games
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC, Play Anywhere
  • Price: ÂŁ12.49
  • Genre: Beat ’em up / Roguelite

A Kingdom Gone Mad

The story begins with a desperate king attempting to bring his queen back from the dead using forbidden magic. Things don’t exactly go to plan.

Unable to control the powers of life and death, the king loses his sanity and the kingdom falls into chaos. It’s up to the game’s heroes to fight back against hordes of enemies and take on the consequences of the Mad King’s actions.

From there, you’ll find that Mad King Redemption takes inspiration from classic beat ’em ups, combining familiar brawling action with 3D mechanics and roguelite elements. There are four playable characters to get involved with too, each with their own combat style, backstory and customisable stats. Players can upgrade those heroes, unlock multiple skills and develop their abilities as they battle through the kingdom.

Randomised elements also mean that no two runs should play out in exactly the same way.

Time For Redemption

With a fallen kingdom, a deranged ruler and plenty of enemies standing in the way, Mad King Redemption looks to put a roguelite spin on the traditional beat ’em up formula.

It’s available now for ÂŁ12.49 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support included. Just make your way to the Xbox Store and you’ll be able to purchase and download the game.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
